Material and craftsmanship

Both pieces are crafted from 925 sterling silver and feature the same floral ornament from the Nielloa Fantasie line: flowing arabesques and floral motifs, hand-engraved into the surface and filled with niello. Niello is not a paint or coating, but a dark substance that is melted into the engraved lines in an open flame and then fuses with the silver. It cannot peel off because it becomes part of the metal itself. With every polishing, the contrast between the bright silver and the dark ornament deepens — niello silver becomes more beautiful over time, not less. The niello tradition from Weliki Ustjug has been documented since 1683; today's SevChern workshop continues this tradition. The gift set is hallmarked.

On the tea tin, the ornament runs around the body as a band, while on the tea sieve spoon, it crowns the end of the handle — the same signature on two forms. The pear-shaped, perforated sieve bowl of the spoon reliably holds tea leaves without the need to hook in a strainer. Dip, let steep, remove.

Care

Wash both pieces by hand with warm water and mild dish soap; do not use a dishwasher. Dry thoroughly after washing and, if necessary, polish with a soft silver polishing cloth using circular motions. The niello ornament requires no special treatment — it does not react to moisture and does not fade. It is best to store the tea tin in a dry place and not leave damp tea inside.
