Material and Craftsmanship

The podstakannik is cast from 925 sterling silver and features a plastic high-relief scene all around: capercaillies among trees, the classic habitat image of this game bird in high forest. With approx. 204 g of silver for the holder alone, the construction is solid, and the scene completely encircles the body, making it visible as a narrative when the glass is turned. The included teaspoon is thematically coordinated: a filigree twig handle with an indicated bark structure, crowned by a plastically sculpted capercaillie figure with a fanned tail. The spoon is antique patinated, a superficial, thin blackening in the relief depressions that plastically highlights the sculpture. This patination is not niello; niello is a different technique with fused sulfur-silver paste, typical of the SevChern manufactory. This ArgentA set features a superficial coating that combines an antique look with protection against further tarnishing and does not unintentionally disappear with everyday use. Both silver parts are solid, no silver plating, no filler material.

The capercaillie is the most prestigious game bird in European high hunting. Its courtship hunt takes place in April and May at sunrise, when the displaying male concentrates on his song and temporarily becomes deaf, hence the Russian name Gluchar, meaning the deaf one. In the Russian goldsmith tradition, capercaillie hunting is one of the classic motifs for gifts to hunters and foresters. Care

Wipe the podstakannik dry after use, no dishwasher, no abrasive sponge. Rinse the teaglass separately and return it dry. If visible tarnishing occurs, polish with a silver polishing cloth; the raised areas can be carefully polished while the depressions retain their depth and thus the scene. Also wipe the teaspoon dry after use; the antique patination will not disappear with everyday use. Ideally, store it in the provided case.
