Description
Saint George on horseback, lance in hand, the dragon underfoot – few Christian images are as universally understood. The "St. George the Victorious antique patinated" tea glass holder set plastically features this patron saint in the central escutcheon medallion of a 925 sterling silver podstakannik, with the equestrian scene highlighted by characteristic blackening in the depressions. It comes with a classic "Imperator" teaspoon and a faceted crystal glass, united in a velvet-lined premium case.

Material and Workmanship
The holder shares the classical column structure with the other coat of arms sets in our line: a bow-shaped handle with a beaded edge, acanthus volutes, a laurel wreath with a bow in the central medallion. There, Saint George on his horse, lance poised, the dragon underfoot, is plastically incorporated. The depressions of the relief are antique patinated, while the raised surfaces remain polished – this contrast makes the equestrian scene stand out more clearly. The accompanying "Imperator" teaspoon features a classical handle with an openwork oval handle crown and a laurel leaf border; the handle crown offers its own free engraving field for an initial. The bowl is highly polished. The "Tschajny" faceted crystal glass with a cut geometric pattern is a replaceable consumable item and can be replaced if necessary. The blackening on the holder is a superficial patination and technically distinct from niello – niello is the fused sulfur-silver inlay technique of the SevChern manufactory. The manufactory also produces a gilded version of the escutcheon medallion upon request; we also carry both solo holder variants without glass, spoon, and case.
Use and Occasions
Saint George is the patron saint of numerous countries and cities – Russia, Georgia, Moscow, England, Catalonia, and other regions – and has been part of the Moscow city coat of arms since the 14th century. In the Russian Empire, the Order of St. George was founded in 1769, and to this day it is Russia's highest military award. This makes this set a fitting Father's Day or grandfather's gift for men with a connection to tradition, faith, or the military, as a gift to Orthodox Christians, for the name day of Georg, Georgi, Yuriy, or George, for equestrians, riders, and horse breeders, as well as for veteran honors and military anniversaries. It is also well-suited for Muscovites with a connection to their homeland, for Anglophiles, and for the confirmation or first communion of boys with a suitable name. Engraving and SilberVerse Card
The escutcheon medallion on the holder features the Saint George scene and is not available for custom engraving. However, the openwork handle crown of the "Imperator" spoon offers its own engraving field, ideal for an initial, a date, or a small family monogram. Hand-chisel engraving by a silversmith best suits the classic style. With every engraving, we can include a SilberVerse card in 15 × 10 cm format upon request – digitally designed, with a personal dedication, currently at no extra charge.
Care
Clean the holder and spoon only by hand with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth – never in the dishwasher, never rub off the blackening in the depressions with silver polish. Wipe dry after use and store in the case; this protects against air contact and delays natural tarnishing. For heavier tarnishing of the polished surfaces, a soft silver polishing cloth without abrasives helps over the raised areas, never in the blackened depressions. The faceted glass is dishwasher-safe on a short gentle cycle, but washing by hand is gentler and keeps it crystal clear.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Saint George?
A Roman soldier from the 3rd century, legend has it he was executed in 303 under Emperor Diocletian for his Christian faith. The dragon-slaying scene is a late medieval iconographic invention, symbolic of the triumph of good over evil. Today, he is the patron saint of England, Russia, Georgia, Moscow, and other countries.
Does the set have a gilded variant?
The antique patinated variant is standard. The manufactory produces a gilded version of the escutcheon medallion upon request with a longer delivery time.
Is the blackening the same as niello?
No. Niello is a sulfur-silver inlay technique, typical for SevChern from Veliky Ustyug. The blackening used here is a superficial patination in the depressions.
