Material and craftsmanship

The body of the coupe consists of solid 925 sterling silver — no plating, no filling material, just the alloy through and through. In the lower third of the wide, shallow bowl runs an ornamental band of large blossoms with fanned leaves and a spiral center, accompanied by acanthus leaves and swirling scrollwork. This design is created through niello, one of the oldest metalworking techniques in the world: niello is a black inlay that is fused into hand-engraved lines, ground flat, and polished — like ink in silver. The result cannot be rubbed off and does not fade — on the contrary, the contrasts deepen with every polishing. The stem and base remain intentionally undecorated: polished silver that leaves the stage to the ornamental band. The base features concentric grooves, providing the piece with additional stability. SevChern crafts these niello works in Veliky Ustyug, where the technique has been documented since 1683 — a workshop with long-standing experience in the craft.

Usage and occasions

Care

Wash the coupe by hand after use with warm water and a little mild dish soap — do not put it in the dishwasher. The niello is firmly bonded to the silver: no lacquer that peels off, no paint that fades. If the silver tarnishes over time, which is perfectly natural, a soft silver polishing cloth is sufficient. The niello ornament will not be damaged by this — on the contrary, the contrast between black and silver becomes clearer with every polishing. Store the piece in a dry place, preferably in the included gift case.

Yes. 925 sterling silver is heat-resistant and conducts heat well, which also makes the coupe suitable for zabaglione or flambéed fruits. Please do not use it in the oven or microwave.
