Before even a single drop is poured, the stopper of this carafe draws attention to itself: crown-shaped, with a gilded rim and its own small niello motif. The bell-shaped bottle beneath is kept simple, without a handle, featuring a wide frieze of niello arabesques around the body—the smallest gilded piece in the range and, at the same time, one of the most characterful.

Material and workmanship

The bottle is bell-shaped—broad at the bottom, narrow at the top, without a handle and without a separate spout, instead featuring a conical silhouette that can be held directly in the hand. Three golden bands structure the form: one above the decorative frieze, one below, and a third at the base. Between these lines lies a wide frieze of niello arabesques that extends symmetrically around the entire body—palmettes and lotus blossoms, crafted in a geometric-floral style, with a clear contrast between black niello, bright silver, and golden accents.

The stopper bears its own motif: a small, independent lotus niello on a gilded background, which does not simply repeat the pattern of the bottle, but is composed in its own right. The niello inlay is hand-engraved and then filled with the dark niello mass, planed, and polished—like ink in silver, no lacquer and no coating. The Couronne is crafted by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, where the art of niello has been documented since 1683; each piece undergoes around 15 work steps there, from shaping to polishing.

Usage and occasions

270 ml is less than half a bottle of wine—deliberately so, for the Couronne is not intended for large pours, but for fruit brandy, liqueur, or cognac that deserves a worthy vessel. Without a handle, the bottle rotates easily in the hand, allowing the pour to be finely metered; the crown-shaped stopper seals securely and preserves the aroma. An exceptionally good olive oil or mild balsamic vinegar can also be served in it.

As a gift, the Couronne is suitable for occasions with a personal character: for a milestone birthday, a promotion, as a wedding gift for a couple who sets their table with meaning, or as an anniversary gift for business partners. Care

Clean by hand with lukewarm water and mild dish soap; do not place in the dishwasher. Do not scrub gilded and niello surfaces; a soft cloth is sufficient to remove fingerprints. Dry immediately after rinsing so that no spots form. With regular polishing using a silver polishing cloth, the niello contrast deepens over time.
