Material and Craftsmanship

The bottle is bell-shaped—wide at the bottom, narrow at the top, without a handle and without a separate spout, but with a conical silhouette that can be easily handled. Three gold bands structure the form: one above the decorative frieze, one below it, a third at the foot. Between these lines lies a wide frieze of niello arabesques, symmetrical around the entire belly—palmettes and lotus blossoms, geometrically-florally crafted, with a clear contrast between black niello, bright silver, and golden accents.

The stopper carries its own motif: a small, independent lotus niello on a gilded background, which does not simply repeat the pattern of the bottle but is composed for itself. The niello inlay is hand-engraved and then filled with the dark niello paste—a chemical-physical bond with the silver, not a varnish or coating. The Couronne is manufactured by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, where niello art has been documented since 1683; each piece undergoes about 15 work steps there, from shaping to polishing.

Usage and Occasions

270 ml is less than half a bottle of wine—deliberately so, because the Couronne is not intended for large pouring, but for fruit brandy, liqueur, or cognac that deserves a worthy vessel. Without a handle, the bottle turns easily in the hand, allowing for fine-dosed pouring; the crown-shaped stopper seals securely and preserves the aroma. The food-safe 925 silver craftsmanship is also suitable for a particularly good olive oil or a mild balsamic vinegar.

Care
