Material and craftsmanship

All 24 pieces are made of 925 sterling silver and feature the floral Niello ornament of the Provence line on the front and back of the handle as well as at the transitions to the fork tines. Niello is a thousands-year-old refining technique: a black alloy is fired into fine, pre-engraved grooves, forming a chemical-physical bond with the silver — it is not a lacquer that could peel off. Unlike the fully gilded sister version of the same line, the silver remains visible here, allowing the polished surfaces and the cool silver luster to stand out without the distraction of a gold tone. The SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug maintains the region's Niello tradition, which has been documented since 1683; for a 24-piece set, each piece goes through the multi-stage process of handle cutting, hand engraving, Niello application, furnace fixation, polishing, and hallmarking.

Store all 24 pieces in the provided gift box after cleaning to slow down the formation of tarnish patina. If patina becomes visible, a silver polishing cloth helps — do not use it directly on the Niello ornaments to avoid damaging the black inlay.
