Material and craftsmanship
The double-headed eagle has been one of the oldest symbols of Russian state heraldry since the late 15th century. On the "Sovereign" sugar bowl, it sits in a circular, gold-plated medallion on both sides of the bowl — the contour is engraved, and the background is gold-plated, making the eagle stand out in relief. Around the medallions run gold-plated acanthus vines with a braided border underneath the rim. Niello is a black inlay that is fused into the engraved lines, sanded flat, and polished – like ink in silver — durable, not applied. The two C-shaped handles are fully gold-plated, with four ball buttons at the attachments. The bowl is crafted by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, where the niello tradition has been documented since 168 3.
Usage and occasions
The bowl is designed as an open sugar bowl — for sugar cubes, granulated sugar, or rock candy. The 220 ml volume and wide shape also make it suitable as a bowl for confectionery or small pralines. The fully gold-plated interior is intended for daily use. As a wedding gift, it is a piece that can still be on the table for silver and golden anniversaries. For collectors of Russian tableware, the combination of the state emblem and the niello technique is a significant feature. The bowl is also suitable as an anniversary or business gift for work anniversaries or as a gift for a housewarming.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
You can find out directly from the shop whether an individual engraving is possible on this piece. Upon request, we can include a personal SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape) — individually designed, tailored to the occasion, and free of charge.
Care
A soft, lint-free cloth for polishing is sufficient for everyday use. Silver tarnishes over time — that is the nature of the material, not a defect. Niello changes hardly at all; the contrast between dark niello and polished silver even intensifies with regular polishing. Do not clean the gold-plated interior with hard or abrasive agents — warm water and a mild detergent are sufficient for thorough cleaning.
