Description
Silver Carafe Relief — 225 ml you can feel
Run your thumb over the bulbous body of this carafe — and you'll feel it instantly. Not lacquer, not print, not glued-on decor. You'll feel genuine indentations: swirling tendrils, oval medallions, delicate blossoms engraved into the silver itself. The Silver Carafe Relief is the smallest piece in the collection — 225 ml, 143 mm high, a bulbous vase shape with a C-handle and lid knob — and perhaps the most tactile object that has ever stood on your table. If you're looking for a pouring vessel that not only wants to be looked at, but felt, you've found it here. This small carafe is made for the finest drops: a particularly good liqueur, a grappa after dinner, a high-quality olive oil on a set table. It is not a decoration — it is a ritual in silver.
925 sterling silver without gilding. Matte, cool silver that shimmers in the light and becomes deeper, darker, more mysterious in the engraved indentations. The Niello relief makes exactly this difference — and this difference is unmistakable. And even less to be overlooked.
Niello Relief — engraved, not applied
Many carafes have patterns. This carafe is its pattern.
In the Niello relief process, the motif is engraved directly into the silver — not printed, not soldered, not applied. The engraving indentations are created by goldsmithing: step by step, the lines are driven into the metal. Afterwards, a black Niello compound is inlaid into these indentations and chemically-physically bonded with the silver — no paint, no lacquer, no coating that could peel off. The Niello is the silver. If you polish the carafe later, the contrast even deepens: the silver shines brighter, the Niello remains dark. The craftsmanship becomes more beautiful over time.
The motif on this carafe is a band frieze that adorns the belly all around: stylized blossoms in oval drop medallions, connected by swirling tendrils. Classic ornamentation from the Russian goldsmithing tradition of SevChern in Veliky Ustyug — a city that has stood for Niello art for over 340 years. Close your eyes and trace the outline of a medallion with your finger. You'll feel where the silver rises and where the indentation begins. This is not an image on silver. This is an image of silver.
The play of light and shadow is essential to this carafe: when light falls on the curved surface, the raised parts glow — the engraved indentations remain in shadow. Depending on the incidence of light, depending on the viewing angle, the carafe shows a different face. It is different in the morning than in the evening. For comparison: the Florentina carafe from the same manufacturer features free-flowing plant tendrils and holds 2.8 liters — opulent, for the grand table. The Paisley carafe displays gilded oriental patterns. The Nectar carafe works with gold and bee motifs. The Relief carafe is the opposite of everything: compact, clear, tactile. Its language is silver and engraving — nothing else.
Liqueur, Schnapps, Olive Oil — the smallest carafe for the finest drops
225 ml. That sounds modest. But do the math: 225 ml is six to eight small liqueur or schnapps glasses. That's enough for a round at the table, for the first glass after dessert, for the schnapps you only open on special occasions. This carafe is not for mass-produced goods. It is for the one good drop you celebrate.
Fruit brandy from Styria. Grappa from a small winery. Vodka from a boutique distillery. Grandma's amaretto. All these spirits become something different in this carafe: no longer a bottle, but a ceremony. Whoever pours from a silver carafe pours differently — slower, more attentively, with a small gesture that says: this is special.
And if you're not a fan of high-proof spirits, opt for olive oil. 925 sterling silver is completely food-safe — no taste is transferred, no reaction occurs. A good cold-pressed olive oil, a native truffle oil, an aromatized chili oil — served in the Relief carafe, the table becomes an experience. The smallest table carafe in the range, with the greatest effect.
Matching cutlery is available directly: The Relief Collection includes 24-piece and 4-piece sets from the same manufacturer, with the same Niello band frieze. A table that features this carafe and matching silver cutlery speaks one language — consistent, thoughtful, unforgettable. You can find the sets in our Table Silver & Silver Cutlery Collection. Schnapps glasses and spirits glasses for the perfect presentation can be found in the Schnapps Glass Collection.
Engraving & Personalization
This carafe already bears a pattern — but it can also bear your name. Or a date. Or the initials of the recipient. An individual engraving on the lid, bottom, or handle transforms the carafe into a piece with history: For Karl, for his 50th birthday, from his family. Or simply the two letters that say it all.
Engraving on request — speak to us, we will discuss together what is possible and what fits best.
Upon request, we include a personal SilberVerse card in photo format (10 × 15 cm) — individually designed, suitable for the occasion, and currently free of charge. Whether it's a wedding anniversary, a round birthday, a jubilee, or simply an "I'm thinking of you" — the SilberVerse card turns a gift into an experience. Simply state your wish in the order comments, and we will get back to you.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a 225 ml silver carafe used for?
This compact serving jug is ideal for anything enjoyed in small, conscious quantities: liqueur, fruit brandy, grappa, vodka, or specialty schnapps. But also for high-quality olive oil, truffle oil, or flavored oils on a set table — 925 sterling silver is completely food-safe and does not impart any flavor. The 225 ml is enough for six to eight small glasses.
What does Niello relief mean — is it glued-on decor?
No, Niello relief is the opposite: the pattern is engraved directly into the silver. The indentations are created by goldsmithing. Afterwards, Niello compound — a black alloy — is inlaid into these indentations and forms a chemical-physical bond with the silver. It is not lacquer, not print, not an adhesion. The pattern is permanent and even becomes more expressive over time: when polished, the contrast between bright silver and dark Niello deepens.
Is there matching cutlery for the Relief collection?
Yes — the Relief collection includes silver cutlery with the same Niello band frieze, as a 24-piece and 4-piece set. All parts come from the same manufacturer in Veliky Ustyug and match the carafe visually and tactilely. You can find the sets in our Table Silver & Silver Cutlery Collection.
Can olive oil be served in a silver carafe?
Yes, without restriction. 925 sterling silver is completely food-safe and does not react with oils or vinegar. No taste is transferred. The carafe is ideal as a table carafe for good olive oil, truffle oil, or other specialty oils — and makes serving an act of hospitality.
What carafe sizes are available in the range?
The range includes several carafes from the SevChern manufactory: the Relief carafe with 225 ml (the smallest), the Sunflower carafe with 480 ml, the Nectar carafe with approx. 1.5 l, and the Florentina as a large table carafe with 2.8 l. All sizes and models can be found in the Carafes & Jugs Collection.
