Silver Carafe 925 Silver Niello Relief 225 ml

The Relief silver carafe in 925 sterling silver features a niello ornament that is not printed, but engraved directly into the silver itself — actual recesses that can be felt by hand. With a capacity of 225 ml, it is the smallest piece in the SevChern collection: a bulbous vase shape with a handle, spout, and lid knob, intended for the finest spirits — a good liqueur, an after-dinner grappa, or a high-quality olive oil.

A frieze of stylized flowers in oval cartouches, connected by sweeping vines, runs along the lower belly of the carafe — classic ornamentation from the Russian silversmithing tradition of SevChern in Veliky Ustyug. In the niello relief process, the motif is engraved directly into the silver, with the engraved recesses created by silversmithing work. Subsequently, a black niello compound is melted in, sanded flat, and polished, like ink in silver — no paint, no lacquer, no coating that could peel off.

Material and workmanship

The niello is part of the silver, not on it. Step by step, the lines are chased into the metal, then the niello compound is inlaid. Anyone who polishes the carafe later deepens the contrast: the silver shines brighter, the niello remains dark. The play of light and shadow is part of the essence of this carafe — when light falls on the curved surface, the raised parts light up, while the engraved recesses remain in the shadows. Depending on the incidence of light and viewing angle, the carafe shows a different face.

Use and occasions

225 ml corresponds to six to eight small liqueur or schnapps glasses — enough for a round at the table or for that one fine spirit that is to be celebrated: fruit brandy, grappa, vodka, or amaretto. The carafe is also suitable for a good cold-pressed olive oil or a flavored oil on a set table. As a gift, it is suitable for a milestone birthday, an anniversary, or as a lasting memory of a special moment.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

An individual engraving on the lid, base, or handle transforms the carafe into a piece with a story — a name, a date, initials. Engraving upon review; speak to us, and we will discuss together what is possible. Upon request, we will include a personal SilberVerse card in 15 × 10 cm photo format — individually designed, tailored to the occasion, and free of charge.

Care

A soft cloth and lukewarm water are sufficient for everyday care. Do not use a silver dip bath, as this can attack the niello inlay. No dishwasher. The more often you polish the carafe, the clearer the contrast between light silver and dark niello becomes — the piece becomes more expressive over time.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 225 ml silver carafe used for?
For anything enjoyed in small, conscious quantities: liqueur, fruit brandy, grappa, vodka, or specialty schnapps. Also for high-quality olive oil or truffle oil.

What does niello relief mean — is it glued-on decoration?
No, the opposite: the pattern is engraved directly into the silver, the recesses are created by silversmithing work. Subsequently, a black niello inlay is melted in, sanded flat, and polished — like ink in silver, no lacquer, no printing.

Can you serve olive oil in a silver carafe?
Yes. After use, clean with warm water and mild detergent and dry well.
