Eliyahu-Teller 925 Silver Signature Light — approx. 23 cm

The smallest plate in the Eliyahu series, designed for tables where space is at a premium. Its serene mirror is the real advantage of the Light version: it reflects the base of the cup, making it appear larger than its actual dimensions.

When the table is full

A Seder table is not a typical set table. In addition to the usual dinnerware, there is the Seder plate with its six symbolic foods, wine for all present, candles, the matzah covered by a cloth, and a Haggadah at each place for reading.

Anyone who has hosted a Seder for ten or twelve people knows the problem: there isn't enough space. This is precisely why ritual objects are available in multiple sizes.

Approximately 23 cm is the compact size — large enough for the cup to have its own surface, yet small enough to fit between the Seder plate and wine glasses. For an everyday household or a smaller gathering, it is often a smarter choice than the large format.

The Light Version

The Signature line is known for its dense chasing. The Light version takes a more restrained approach: less ornamental area, more polished surface.

On a plate, this means that the chased ring is narrower and the smooth areas are wider. The piece appears calmer — and it matches the Light cups of the same series, whose upper cupola also remains polished.

Why a Plate?

The Cup of Elijah is filled to the brim at the Seder; this abundance symbolizes overflowing blessing. The plate catches any overflow, keeping it off the tablecloth.

The fifth cup belongs to the Prophet Elijah, whose coming heralds future redemption. It is filled but not drunk — and therefore remains on its plate throughout the evening.

Material and Origin

A silver-plated piece could not be produced in this way — the plating would crack under the hallmark. And it cannot be repolished indefinitely because the layer becomes thinner. Solid silver tolerates both: the handcrafting during its creation and care over generations. The plate is hallmarked.

Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. The ornaments of the Signature line are chased — hand-driven into the silver with punches, not pressed under a machine.

As an Addition

Elijah cups are often passed down through generations, but the matching plate is often missing. A separately available plate is therefore an obvious gift for someone who already owns the cup — especially if their cup is rather small.

Engraving

The smooth outer rim is the designated area and remains visible even when the cup is standing. In this format, the line is shorter than on the large plate; it is perfectly sufficient for a name with a year. We advise you in advance. Upon request, we will include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, free of charge.

Care

Wash by hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher: cleaning salts attack silver. Wipe away wine residues promptly. Polished areas show fingerprints more clearly than chased ones; a soft cloth is sufficient. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and tableware.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it too small for a large cup?

It fits cups up to about 28 cm in height. For the very large pieces in the line — 33 cm and more — we recommend the larger format.

What does "Light" mean?

Less ornamental area, more polished surface. The design appears calmer and matches the Light cups of the same series.

Can I use the plate for other purposes?

Yes. It can hold pastries or chocolates and serve as a tray.

Is it kosher?

We sell silver ritual objects and describe their use — we cannot provide religious legal information. Questions about ritual suitability should be directed to your community.

Which cup does it belong to?

To the Light cup of approx. 28 cm — both are listed by the manufacturer under the same model number. For the larger Light cup of approx. 30 cm, the plate of approx. 26 cm is intended.

Is it delivered in gift packaging?

Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.

Where this plate belongs

At approx. 23 cm, this is the smallest Eliyahu plate in the line. It was designed for the Light cup of approx. 28 cm — the same restrained craftsmanship, the same model number from the manufacturer.

If you have a larger cup, choose the Light plate of approx. 26 cm; it is also available together with its cup as a complete set. The densely chased alternative of similar size is the plate of approx. 25 cm.

The serene mirror in the center is the actual advantage of this version: it reflects the base of the cup, making it appear larger than its actual dimensions. On its own, the plate is a simple silver base that also makes sense under a candle or a small vase.

The smallest plate in the series is also the most versatile outside of its intended occasion. At approx. 23 cm, it fits on any dresser and in any display cabinet; when displayed upright, it shows the serene mirror for which the Light version is made.
