Description
The tallest goblet in the Light series combines two qualities that are usually at odds: presence on the table and an understated surface. The chasing is located at the base, leaving the upper bowl clear. This is the right choice for those who want height without the piece becoming loud.

- Height approx. 30 cm — silver weight approx. 0.5 kg
- Upper bowl polished, lower third chased

- Zaramella Argenti, Padua — workshop since 1948
Thirty centimeters — what that means on the table
The Seder table is crowded. Plates for symbolic foods, wine glasses for everyone, candles, the Haggadah at every place setting, often flowers. In this environment, an object meant to be the centerpiece must rise above the rest.
A height of approx. 30 cm achieves this. The goblet stands above the height of glasses and plates, and the polished bowl catches the candlelight — visible from every seat at the table, even when twelve people are seated.
At the same time, this is the limit at which a goblet still reads as a drinking vessel. Larger pieces in the line feel more like trophies; this remains a goblet.
The fifth goblet
Four goblets of wine are placed on the table at the Seder meal to be drunk — representing the four promises of redemption. A fifth is filled but not drunk: the Kos shel Eliyahu.
It belongs to the Prophet Elijah, whose arrival, according to tradition, heralds the future redemption. Toward the end of the evening, the front door is opened to welcome him. The goblet remains full.
The polished surface
The Light finish leaves the upper half of the bowl clear. This has two effects: Polished silver reflects light as a single surface rather than breaking it into refractions — a distinct difference by candlelight. And it creates a large, easily legible engraving surface at eye level.
With fully chased goblets, only the edge of the foot remains for a dedication. For those who wish to add a Hebrew line, a date, or a family crest, this finish is the better choice.
Material and origin
The advantage of solid silver over silver-plated ware is twofold: Chasing is only possible in solid silver — a plating would tear during the hammering process — and the gold-plated interior protects the surface exactly where it cannot be polished. A goblet filled over decades requires both.
Zaramella Argenti has been producing in Padua since 1948. The ornaments of the Signature line are chased — driven into the silver by hand using punches.
As a gift
For a wedding, a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, or as a gift to the hosts of a Seder. With this size, there is an added benefit: A goblet that remains visible on a full table is noticed even when many people gather — and that is something people remember.
Engraving
The polished upper bowl is the designated area and is particularly generous at this height. Because it is curved, we will discuss the size and layout in advance. Upon request, we will include a SilberVerse card (15 × 10 cm) free of charge.
Care
Clean by hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly — including the inside. No dishwasher. Rinse promptly after the Seder. The polished area shows fingerprints more clearly than chased surfaces; a soft cloth is sufficient. Tarnishing is reversible with a silver cloth; the darker depth in the recesses should remain. More can be found in our guide on the care of silver cutlery and tableware.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the largest Eliyahu goblet in the line?
No, but it is the largest in this series. The line includes goblets up to approx. 51 cm in height.
Is it stable?
Yes. The stepped round foot is wide and shifts the weight to the bottom.
Can you drink from the goblet?
Technically yes — it is gold-plated on the inside. However, in the ritual, Elijah's goblet remains unconsumed.
Is the goblet kosher?
We sell silver items and describe their use — we cannot provide religious legal advice. Questions regarding ritual suitability should be directed to your community.
Is there a matching plate?
Yes — the Light plate (approx. 26 cm). Together, they form the Light Set, which we carry as a complete ensemble.
Is it delivered in gift packaging?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the workshop.
The largest Light version
At approx. 30 cm, this is the tallest goblet in the Light series. It combines two things that are usually at odds: presence on the table and an understated surface. The chasing is on the foot and rim, leaving the bowl smooth and reflective in the middle.
This includes the Light plate (approx. 26 cm) and, if you want both together, the Light set. One size smaller is the Light goblet (approx. 28 cm).
The smooth bowl makes this goblet a display piece: it catches and returns light, whereas densely chased surfaces break it. If you are looking for a piece that remains visible all year round rather than being brought out only once a year, this is the one.
