Gift Set Tea Caddy and Tea Strainer Spoon 925 Silver Niello

A tea caddy and a tea strainer spoon made of 925 sterling silver, originating from the same collection and featuring the same floral niello ornament — a tea ensemble crafted as a single unit rather than two randomly combined pieces. Produced from the Nielloa Fantasie line, featuring hand-engraved niello work from Veliky Ustyug.

Material and craftsmanship

Both pieces are crafted from 925 sterling silver and bear the same floral ornament from the Nielloa Fantasie line: sweeping arabesques and floral shapes, hand-engraved into the surface and filled with niello. Niello is neither a paint nor a coating, but a dark compound that is fused into the engraved lines in an open flame, becoming one with the silver. It cannot peel off because it becomes part of the metal itself. With each polish, the contrast between the bright silver and the dark ornament deepens — niello silver becomes more beautiful over time, not worse. The niello tradition from Veliky Ustyug has been documented since 1683; today's SevChern manufactory continues this craft. The gift set is hallmarked.

On the tea caddy, the ornament runs as a band around the body; on the tea strainer spoon, it crowns the end of the handle — the same signature on two forms. The pear-shaped, perforated strainer bowl of the spoon holds tea leaves reliably without needing a hook: immerse, let steep, remove.

Usage and occasions

For anyone who prefers loose tea over bags, this set is a thoughtful addition to the tea ritual: the caddy preserves Darjeeling, Assam, or flavored blends, protected from moisture and foreign odors, while the spoon handles brewing without dripping on the tablecloth. As a gift, the set is suitable for Mother's Day or Father's Day if the recipient appreciates tea, as well as for weddings or milestone birthdays as an alternative to the usual silver gifts — a piece used in everyday life instead of sitting in a cupboard.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

Both pieces can be engraved: an initial on the lid of the caddy, a date or a short dedication on the handle of the spoon. Upon request, we will include a personal SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape), individually designed to suit the occasion — free of charge. Simply indicate your request when ordering.

Care

Clean both pieces by hand with warm water and mild dish soap; do not use a dishwasher. Dry thoroughly after washing and, if necessary, polish with a soft silver cloth using circular motions. The niello ornament requires no special treatment — it does not react to moisture and will not fade. It is best to store the tea caddy dry and not leave moist tea inside it.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in the set?

The set consists of a tea caddy (approx. 108 mm high, approx. 60 mm diameter, approx. 180 g 925 sterling silver, screw lid) and a tea strainer spoon (approx. 153 mm long, approx. 35 mm wide, approx. 48 g 925 sterling silver, pear-shaped strainer bowl). Both feature the floral niello ornament of the Nielloa Fantasie line. The gift case is included.

Can both pieces be engraved?

Yes. The tea caddy can be engraved on the lid or a smooth surface of the body; the tea strainer spoon can be engraved on the handle. An engraving makes the set a personal gift — perfectly complemented by the free SilberVerse card with your dedication.

How much loose tea fits in the tea caddy?

With a diameter of approx. 60 mm and a height of approx. 108 mm, the caddy typically holds 50 to 80 g of loose tea, depending on the type of tea and the fill level. The screw lid closes tightly and protects the aroma.
