Description

Birth and christening spoon with angel design, 925 silver — guardian angel, birth clock and personal engraving

This birth and christening spoon combines two occasions in one silver spoon: It documents the birth details—time, weight, and length—and simultaneously features a guardian angel as a symbol of blessing and security. Whether given as a gift for a birth or a christening, the angel represents the wish that a good companion watches over the child. Crafted from 925 sterling silver by Zaramella Argenti (Padova), this spoon combines a complete engraving system with a detailed angel figure—a keepsake that preserves the first details of life and deeper symbolism in silver.

Zaramella Argenti — Padova, since 1948

Zaramella Argenti was founded in Padua in 1948 and specializes in silverware and silver gifts. The company manufactures, among other things, as an OEM partner for Christofle . The hallmark "30PD Z 925" confirms the 925/1000 silver purity and identifies Zaramella as the manufacturer.

The angel motif — scene and details on the front

The front of the handle depicts a celestial scene extending from the end of the handle to the bowl of the spoon. Each section combines documentation of birth with angel symbolism.

At the tip of the stem sits a dial with the numerals 12, 3, 6, and 9. The hands are intentionally omitted—they are engraved with diamonds to represent the birth time. Baroque scrollwork frames the dial and visually connects it to the angel scene below.

Below this, the main scene unfolds: An angel with outstretched wings , depicted in a childlike, heavenly manner, hovers above the stem. The angel figure is meticulously crafted in relief—wings, robe, and posture convey the impression of a watchful protector. Next to the angel, the sequence of numbers "20..." is visible—a prepared date field into which the year or full date of birth can be engraved.

The celestial atmosphere continues in the central section of the stem : clouds and a depiction of the sky surround the scene, giving the overall image depth. This zone forms the transition from the angel scene to the engraved fields.

Near the spoon's bowl are two engraving fields, labeled "gr." and "cm." — prepared for engraving birth weight and birth length. These fields are part of the relief.

The spoon bowl itself is wide and oval-shaped, polished to a mirror finish. It corresponds to the size of a teaspoon, but is deliberately wider — making it suitable as a dessert spoon or porridge spoon for first meals.

The back of the stem is smooth and offers space for further engravings: the child's first name and a short dedication such as "From Grandma & Grandpa" or "From Godmother and Godfather".

The birth clock and the engraving system — five fields on a spoon

This birth and christening spoon offers a particularly comprehensive engraving system: Five different fields accommodate the birth details — one more than most birth spoons, thanks to the additional date field “20…” next to the angel.

The five engraving fields in detail

1. Clock face → Birth clock (front, stem tip)
The prepared dial displays the numbers 12, 3, 6, and 9. Hour and minute hands, indicating the exact time of birth, are added using diamond engraving. This creates a personalized birth clock.

2. Date field “20…” → Year of birth or date (front, next to angel)
Next to the angel figure, the number "20..." is already pre-printed. Here, the year of birth (e.g., "2026") or a complete date can be added. This additional field is a special feature of the angel spoon.

3. Engraving field “gr.” → Birth weight (front, near hollow)
The birth weight is engraved in the field labeled "gr." — for example, "3280" for 3,280 grams.

4. Engraving field “cm.” → Birth size (front, near indentation)
The field labelled "cm." records the birth size — for example, "51" for 51 centimeters.

5. Back of the stem → Name and dedication
The smooth reverse side offers space for the child's first name and a short dedication such as "From Grandma & Grandpa" , "From Godmother Anna" or "For the christening of..." . Especially for a christening gift, a dedication that mentions the occasion is appropriate here.

Engraving type and ordering

The engraving is done using diamond engraving – permanent, precise, and brilliantly brilliant depending on the light. This service is charged at a flat rate. Since multiple areas are engraved individually, please contact us before ordering . You can find all the details on our engraving service page.

The angel as a symbol of protection and baptism — meaning for birth and baptism

The angel is one of humanity's oldest protective symbols. In Christian tradition, the guardian angel watches over every person from birth. This concept takes on particular depth at baptism : The baptismal angel receives the child into the community of believers and stands by their side as a heavenly guardian.

But even outside of religious contexts, the angel carries a powerful meaning: protection , good wishes , the hope that someone is watching over the child. Families without religious affiliation choose the angel as an expression of a universal wish—that the child grows up protected.

This dual function is precisely what makes the angel spoon so special: it serves as both a birth gift (with a full engraving system) and a christening gift (featuring a guardian angel as the central motif). Unlike a birth spoon with a stork or animal motif, it carries an additional layer of meaning.

Occasions — when would you give this spoon as a gift?

For a christening — the most obvious occasion. The guardian angel makes it the most symbolically fitting christening gift in the birth spoon collection.

For birth — even without a church context — the angel expresses the wish for protection, while the engraving system records all birth data.

For a first birthday — for everyone who wants to give a special belated gift. The birth details can also be engraved after twelve months.

At Christmas — angels and Christmas belong together. If the child was born or baptized in the same year, it creates a truly atmospheric setting.

SilverVerse Card — a personalized gift card for the spoon

In addition to the engraving, you can order a SilverVerse card —a personalized gift card in photo format (10 x 15 cm) with your own message. Each card is unique. Especially with the Angel Spoon, a blessing for a christening, a welcome message for a birth, or a verse to accompany the child is a perfect choice. The SilverVerse card is currently free and is included in the gift box along with the spoon. You can find all the information on our engraving service page.

Use and care

The wide, oval-shaped bowl of this spoon is the size of a teaspoon , but intentionally wider. This makes it suitable as a dessert spoon for yogurt, pudding, or fruit puree, and as a feeding spoon for first meals—provided the child is supervised and their motor skills allow it. At approximately 14.5 cm long and weighing about 28 g, the spoon fits comfortably in the hand.

925 sterling silver is food-safe, nickel-free, and antibacterial. Wash the spoon by hand with warm water and mild dish soap, then dry it with a soft cloth. Patina can be removed with a silver polishing cloth. Store the spoon in a dry place, ideally in the included gift box. Not dishwasher safe.

Frequently asked questions about the Angel birth and christening spoon

Is the spoon only intended for baptism?
No. The complete engraving system—time of birth, weight, height, date, and name—makes it a comprehensive birth spoon. Even without a religious context, the angel symbolizes protection and good wishes. You can give it as a gift for a birth, a christening, or both.

What will be engraved on the spoon?
Up to four birth details are engraved on the front: the time of birth (as a clock hand on the dial), the year or date of birth (in the "20..." field), the birth weight (in the "gr." field), and the birth length (in the "cm." field). The back offers space for the child's first name and a short dedication. Contact us with your desired details—we'd be happy to advise you.

What does the field “20…” next to the angel mean?
This is a pre-printed date field. The digits "20" are already present in relief; the remaining digits are added by engraving. This allows for the engraving of the birth year (e.g., "2026") or a complete date. This additional field is a special feature of the angel spoon.

Can I give the spoon as a gift without engraving?
Yes. Even without engraving, the birth and christening spoon is a complete gift—the angel relief, the heavenly scene, and the prepared engraving areas are already there. Engraving can also be added later if you decide to do so at a later date.

How much does the engraving cost?
Engraving is charged at a flat rate. Since multiple areas are engraved individually, please contact us beforehand. We will clarify the scope and provide a quote. Details can be found on our engraving service page.
