Material and craftsmanship

The rim of this plate features a dense floral vine motif in niello: leaves, small blossoms, winding stems, and symmetrical volutes run around the edge. Between the ornaments, geometric lines divide the pattern into clear sections. The contrast between deep black niello and bright, high-gloss polished silver makes the pattern legible from any distance. The floral border is one of the most traditional ornaments in Russian silversmithing – it cites a forest aesthetic without depicting any specific animal. As with all plates in the SevChern hunting collection, this piece is divided into two zones: a raised rim with niello ornament and a flat, polished center – functional as a smooth surface and decorative as an eye-catcher.

Care

Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap. No dishwasher, no silver dip bath – the niello inlay could be damaged. Use a soft cloth for the polished mirror center, and a silver polishing cloth if necessary for light patina. Storage in the gift box or away from light prevents tarnishing.
