Material and workmanship

The rim of this plate features dense floral niello tendrils: leaves, small blossoms, twisted stems, and symmetrical volutes run around the edge. Geometric dividing lines between the ornaments structure the pattern into clear sections. The contrast between deep black niello and bright, highly polished silver makes the pattern readable from any distance. The floral border is one of the most traditional ornaments in Russian silversmithing – it evokes a forest aesthetic without explicitly depicting an animal. As with all plates in the SevChern hunting collection, this one is also divided into two zones: a raised rim with niello ornament, and a flat polished mirror in the center – functional as a smooth surface, decorative as an eye-catcher.

Use and occasions

With a diameter of 150 mm, the plate is suitable as a dessert plate, bread plate, praline plate, or amuse-bouche base. Care

Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap. No dishwasher, no silver dip – the niello inlay would be damaged. A soft cloth for the polished mirror, a silver polishing cloth for light patina if necessary. Storage in the gift box or protected from light prevents tarnishing.
