Description

A business card case made of 925 sterling silver, highly polished — with a gilded Empire border and a central double-headed eagle coat of arms engraved in gold: the classic Russian state symbol from the Romanov Empire tradition. We call this design "Imperia" — referring to the imperial style in which the coat of arms with crown, orb, and broadly spread wings on the sides is historically engraved in Russian goldsmithing tradition. Manufactured in the Mstera Manufactory (Мстерский ювелирный завод), traditionally specialized in engraved gilding work.

Imperia Design — Double-headed Eagle Coat of Arms in Gold-Engraved Empire Border

The Imperia case presents a perfect imperial composition: a framing border pattern with acanthus leaves and volutes on all four edges — and at the center, instead of an empty cartouche medallion, the Russian double-headed eagle coat of arms in detailed gold engraving. The two-headed eagle with spread wings, crown, and central shield is one of the oldest heraldic motifs in Russian goldsmithing tradition — historically used on silverware, caskets, writing instruments, and cases since the 17th century.

Unlike the Aurea variant with an empty engraving cartouche, the Imperia is already compositionally designed with a motif — the center is not intended for individual engraving but features the finished coat of arms motif. For personal engraving, the inside of the flap or a smooth area on the side silver surface remains. Those who do not wish to overwrite the coat of arms motif as the central expression will leave the case as it is — a piece with a clear historical statement.

The gilding is engraved and inlaid: all gold lines are first engraved into the silver and then filled with real gold. No foil, no galvanic plating — the highest quality variant of a silver-gold composition, as cultivated by Mstera for generations.

Mstera Manufactory — the Russian Tradition Behind the Piece

The Mstera Jewelry Manufactory (Мстерский ювелирный завод) is located in the village of Mstera in the Russian Vladimir region — a historical center for icon painting, Mstera lacquer painting, and goldsmithing. The manufactory carries its own manufacturer's mark ("imennik") alongside the 925 silver hallmark. Each piece can thus be individually certified.

Unlike the ArgentA souvenir line "From the Soul" (plastic sculptures, corkscrews, etc.), Mstera specializes in classical-aristocratic table objects: cases, caskets, jewelry boxes, icon frames. This line serves classic representative occasions in the Russian goldsmithing tradition.

925 Sterling Silver + Gold — the Material Combination

The base material is 925 sterling silver, highly polished. The ornamentation and the eagle coat of arms are executed in gold — genuine gold inlay in engraved lines, no plating, no foil, no printing ink. Two precious metals in different functions, materially connected to the silver base.

What you need to know: pure silver tarnishes over time in everyday use (chemical reaction with sulfur compounds from the air). On an Imperia piece, this is mainly visible on the mirror-polished silver surface between the gold ornaments — the gold lines themselves remain bright, as gold does not tarnish. With a soft silver polishing cloth, the original shine is restored in 1-2 minutes, and the gold inlay is not damaged. Storage in the included gift case with anti-tarnish strips significantly prolongs its bright condition.

Packaging — Ready to Gift Directly from the Case

The business card case comes in a velvet-lined gift case — ready to gift directly, without additional packaging logistics. Fabric-covered, hinged, with a recessed shape for the case. Note from the manufacturer: the case packaging may vary in details from the shipping condition — fabric and lining are handmade.

For Whom, for What Occasion

The Imperia case is the most thematically distinctive piece in the business card case series — made for occasions where the gift should convey a clear historical-aristocratic statement and the coat of arms motif is part of the gesture:

Collectors of historical silver pieces and Empire ornamentation — as an addition to classic silverware collections
Lovers of Russian goldsmithing tradition — who appreciate the piece as an example of the Mstera Manufactory
Diplomatic gift or state reception gesture — where the coat of arms motif carries appropriate contextual connotations
High-ranking business gift with historical depth — retirement from a leadership position with a collector's background
Russian cultural heritage as a gift — for Russian diaspora or Russia-affine collectors
Antiques lovers — a piece that looks like it's from the 19th century, made with today's 925 silver quality

Engraving — If the Piece Should Become More Personal

Unlike the Aurea case, the outer center of the Imperia is already occupied by the double-headed eagle coat of arms. If you still wish to personalize the piece, there are two sensible options:

Inside of the flap — initials, date, short dedication on the inner surface of the flap (visible when opening, without disturbing the coat of arms motif on the outside)
Smooth silver outer surface on the side — discreet engraving on the edge of the flap, on the back, or on one of the undisturbed silver areas
Date on the edge of the coat of arms — if an anniversary date should thematically fit the imperial piece, it can be integrated into the frame ornament (we will discuss calligraphy before execution)

With Imperia, engraving is not a mandatory feature as with Aurea — many buyers appreciate the piece precisely in its unengraved, historically complete form.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Imperia Business Card Case

What exactly does the coat of arms depict?
The central engraved eagle is the classic double-headed eagle motif of Russian goldsmithing tradition — two eagle heads looking outwards with crowns, a central imperial shield on the chest, spread wings, orb and scepter in the claws (in varying detailed executions). It is one of the oldest heraldic motifs in Europe, worked in Russian workshops since the 17th century on silverware, caskets, and cases.

Is the gilding real or galvanically applied?
Real and engraved inlay: the ornament lines are first engraved into the silver, then materially filled with gold. This is the highest quality gilding variant — no foil, no spray, no galvanic layer that could peel off. Mstera Manufactory has specialized in exactly this technique for generations.

Who is Mstera?
The Mstera Jewelry Manufactory (Мстерский ювелирный завод) is located in the village of Mstera in the Russian Vladimir region — a traditional center for icon painting, lacquer painting, and goldsmithing since the 17th century. Mstera specializes in classical-aristocratic table objects: cases, caskets, jewelry boxes. Argenta distributes the piece as an importer; it was manufactured by Mstera. Each piece bears the Mstera manufacturer's mark alongside the 925 silver hallmark.

How many business cards fit inside?
The case measures 95 × 60 × 5 mm and weighs 89 g. It fits standard business cards (85 × 55 mm) in the range of about 10–15 cards — comparable to the Aurea sister model, a little more than the slim 4-mm models.

Will the silver darken? And the gold?
Silver tarnishes over time in everyday use — a slight yellow to grey tone after a few months. With a silver polishing cloth, it returns to mirror shine in 1-2 minutes. The gold does NOT tarnish — it remains unchanged bright. As a result, the contrast between the silver surface and the gold ornament (both border and coat of arms) is always maintained.

How do I care for the piece?
Store dry, ideally in the included gift case. Wipe dry after use. If visible tarnish appears on the silver surface, polish with a soft silver polishing cloth — the gold inlay and the coat of arms will not be damaged. No dishwasher, no abrasive sponge, no direct contact with perfume or skin cream (acids attack silver, not gold).

How does Imperia differ from Aurea?
Both come from the Mstera Manufactory, both have the gilded Empire border, both are made in the same format (95 × 60 × 5 mm). The difference lies in the center:
Aurea: empty oval cartouche medallion — the stage is free for your individual engraving (monogram, coat of arms, logo, date)
Imperia: already gilded double-headed eagle coat of arms — the statement of the piece is historically composed, further personalization optional on the inside of the flap
If you want to incorporate your own coat of arms or logo, choose Aurea. If you are looking for the Russian Empire coat of arms motif as the main gesture, choose Imperia.
