The green surface in the product photo is not paint — it is guilloche enamel. Beneath a crystal-clear enamel layer lies a fine geometric pattern, mechanically engraved into the brass. This pattern catches the light and refracts it — depending on the viewing angle, the surface shifts between rich green and bright shimmer. In the photo, this effect is subdued; the real object glows far more brightly.

The Guilloche Technique — Precision and Time

A rose engine engraves a uniform, repetitive pattern into the metal surface. The tool originated in watchmaking and is still used today for guilloche enamel. After engraving, several thin layers of transparent enamel are applied — each layer fired individually at about 800 °C, and each layer must cool completely.

The finished transparent enamel acts like a lens: the engraved pattern shines through it and appears three-dimensional. Depending on the light incidence, the intensity of the green changes. This depth cannot be printed or sprayed — it is only created by this process. That's why a genuine guilloche frame costs more than a standard photo frame: because it is something different.
