- Handle width: approx. 28 mm
- Weight: approx. 58 g
- Hallmark: 925 silver stamp and maker's mark at the blade base
Material and workmanship
The handle is divided into three distinct zones: At the upper end, ornamental silver loops as open perforations, which give the piece lightness. Below this, a wide niello field with geometric-floral patterns — blossoms in rhomboid fields, framed by linear borders. The dark niello lines are silver ink, permanently fused and chemically-physically bonded to the metal, not merely applied. A delicate transition of openwork volutes and tendrils finally connects the niello field to the blade — open work through which one can see. The blade itself is long, narrow, and polished; at its base, it bears the engraved maker's mark as a silent detail. Manufactured in a Russian silver workshop, which combines filigree and niello in one piece.
Use and occasions
For a round birthday, this letter opener is a piece that sparks conversation on the desk, for a father, mentor, or business partner. For a company anniversary or promotion, it serves as a representative yet individual business gift. For retirement, it accompanies the transition from office to home office, becoming an eye-catcher rather than drawer fodder. For collectors who already own a minimalist silver piece, this letter opener, with its filigree and niello combination, adds a completely different signature. For confirmation or communion, it is suitable as a first silver piece for one's own desk, with the maker's mark providing a conversation starter about artisanal tradition.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
At the base of the blade, the area next to the manufacturer's mark offers space for a short engraving, such as initials or a date. Upon request, we will include a personalized SilberVerse card in photo format (15 x 10 cm landscape), individually designed to suit the occasion and currently free of charge.
Care
Clean the silver surfaces with a soft polishing cloth. The niello ornaments become more contrasting with each polish. If necessary, carefully remove dust from the filigree openwork with a soft toothbrush and without pressure.
Frequently asked questions
What does openwork filigree mean?
The upper handle area is not solid; the silver volutes are open, so you can see through them. This requires precise sawing and filing, where every arch must be supportive.
What is the symbol at the base of the blade?
The engraved maker's mark identifies the workshop that produced the piece. Together with the 925 hallmark, it is proof of the silver's authenticity.
Can I have the letter opener engraved?
Yes, at the base of the blade, next to the maker's mark, there is space for initials or a short date. Please contact us before ordering.
