Material and Workmanship
The central piece of the set is a silver horseshoe with the Cyrillic inscription "На счастье" — "For good luck." In the center of the horseshoe, two intertwined rings are inlaid with niello, the Slavic symbol of marriage: two motifs in one piece, the horseshoe for luck, the rings for connection.
The horseshoe comes with two fully gold-plated teaspoons made of 925 silver. The fine gold covers the entire surface, from the bowl to the end of the handle. At the end of each handle is a small niello rosette with stylized ring elements, which echoes the horseshoe motif. Niello is not an applied color, but a sulfur-silver alloy that is melted into the line relief and permanently remains part of the silver — a technique from the manufacturing tradition of SevChern in Veliky Ustyug.
Usage and Occasions
The horseshoe, in Slavic tradition, is one of the oldest symbols of good luck and is traditionally given to the bridal couple at weddings — with the opening facing upwards so that luck does not fall out. "Happy Event" is suitable for the wedding ceremony itself, for the first wedding anniversary, as well as for any wedding anniversary. For a silver wedding anniversary after 25 years together, the symbolism is particularly apt: silver for a silver wedding, plus horseshoes and rings as confirmation that happiness has endured. It is also a meaningful choice as a gift from guests to the bridal couple — for shared rituals such as Sunday morning coffee or the first spoonful of wedding cake.
Engraving and SilberVerse Card
Upon request, we can engrave the names of the bridal couple or the wedding date on the spoons or directly onto the horseshoe medallion. With each personalized set, we include a free SilberVerse card in landscape format (15 × 10 cm), individually designed with a dedication.
Care
The gold-plated spoons and the horseshoe medallion are best cared for with a soft cloth, without abrasive cleaners or grit. For light patina, a soft silver polishing cloth is sufficient for the silver surfaces; do not treat the gold plating itself with classic silver polish, as this can attack the gold layer. Clean by hand only; do not put in the dishwasher.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the horseshoe with the Cyrillic inscription mean?
The phrase "На счастье" means "For good luck." In Slavic tradition, the horseshoe is one of the oldest symbols of good luck, and at weddings, it is traditionally given to the bridal couple — with the opening facing upwards so that luck does not fall out. Together with the intertwined rings in niello, it is a doubly symbolic gift.
Can I give the set for a wedding anniversary, not just the wedding itself?
Yes, the set is suitable for any wedding anniversary — from the first to the silver wedding after 25 years or the golden wedding after 50 years. The longer the marriage lasts, the stronger the symbolism of the two rings in the horseshoe.
Are the spoons really fully gold-plated?
Yes, the fine gold covers the entire surface, from the bowl to the end of the handle — a genuine fine gold plating, not a thin coating.
