Christening Set Christ Pantocrator 925 Silver Blackened — Spoon + Cross Pendant, Consecrated

What does Pantocrator mean? The word means “Ruler of All”. This christening set in 925 silver shows Christ with a book in the medallion of the spoon, with the letters IC XC beside him. A consecrated cross lies in the case.

The medallion and its iconography

Christ Pantocrator is one of the oldest pictorial motifs of the Eastern Church. He holds a book, which in the pictorial tradition stands for the Gospel. The letters IC XC are an abbreviation for “Jesus Christ”. Orthodox families know this image from church and from their icon corners.

Why Pantocrator suits a christening

At the christening a child is received into the community of the church. The image can be read as recalling the name in which one is baptised. As a christening gift it therefore has a connection to the occasion.

The spoon gives the image a place in everyday life, and the cross can later be worn on the cord. The two belong together and so lie in the case.

Consecrated by the parish

Spoon and cross: consecrated by the local Orthodox parish of the Svyato-Pokrovsky Church in Kolchugino. A certificate is enclosed. The set promises no protection; it follows a custom.

Silver, blackened and with tendrils

The surface is blackened in an antique style: dark lies in the recesses, while on the raised areas the silver stays light. A small crown crowns the medallion, and tendrils run down the handle.

At 113 × 25 × 10 mm the spoon weighs approx. 14 g. A cross with a weight of approx. 1 g joins it. Together they bring approx. 15 g of silver.

Five lines of prayer on the back

On the back of the medallion a text in five lines stands in relief in Church Slavonic. It is the Jesus Prayer, which many Orthodox Christians say often. On the back of the bowl a tendril border runs.

Cord for the cross

The cross has trefoil ends, a corpus and an eyelet. It comes with a white cord. On request we swap it for blue or pink; tell us via the “order note at checkout”. The cross is pictured without a cord; it is still enclosed.

Personal with engraving

The smooth handle under the medallion takes 10 to 12 characters. That is enough for a first name. You add the engraving service to the cart separately and enter your name wish at the end of the order under “order note at checkout”.

The case

The spoon and cross come in a yellow-orange case with a satin bow on the handle. At about 78 × 188 × 40 mm it needs little space. As with any photo, small differences from the original are possible.

Gold-plated or blackened

If you like it lighter, choose the christening set Pantocrator gold-plated. Further motifs in the series are Saint Nicholas and Our Lady of Kazan.

Blackened Pantocrator christening set: briefly answered

How do I care for the blackened silver?
Clean it by hand with lukewarm water and dry it gently. Polish the light, raised areas, nothing more. Dishwasher: never.

What if the engraving does not work?
Then we refund the engraving flat fee. You will find out after the order, when we discuss the details.

Can I also give the set without engraving?
Yes. The engraving is an extra; without it the handle stays smooth.
