Unlike the simpler version, the gilding here is not a narrow rim, but a continuous surface: if you look into the ring, the inside is completely gilded, while outside the floral niello ornament runs over the ring with its usual fineness. This interplay of dark pattern on the outside and warm gold on the inside makes the set a slightly more festive version of the motif. The accompanying napkins pick up the floral ornament in gold-colored embroidery and continue the color accent on the table.
