Description
Twelve flames represent the maximum configuration that Zaramella produces for this model. Beyond this, it is not the number of arms that increases, but the overall height – and thus the model series.
At a Glance
- Candelabra made of 925 sterling silver, twelve nozzles
- Height approx. 66 cm
- Silver weight approx. 6.75 kg
- Two arm levels, densely arranged crown
- Round chased base, baluster shaft with acanthus
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua – Manufactory since 1948
Where the Limit Lies
With twelve arms at approx. 66 cm height, the crown is full. Any additional arm would either have to be placed closer together – then the flames would be too close – or form a third level, which requires a longer shaft.
This is exactly what the manufacturer does with its larger models: Candelabra with fourteen or fifteen lights measure 65 to 80 centimeters and distribute the arms over more levels. If you are looking in this direction, you will find them in the category Candelabra made of 925 Silver.
Within this series, twelve is therefore the maximum – and the point at which a candelabra completely fills the center of a table.
The Series in Comparison
- nine flames – approx. 4.15 kg, visible space between the arms
- eleven flames – approx. 6.29 kg, balanced crown
- twelve flames – this piece, approx. 6.75 kg, densest design
Between eleven and twelve, there are only about 460 grams. The noticeable jump in this series is from nine to eleven; the decision between the top two is one of appearance, not of format.
Twelve Flames on a Table
A dozen candles at the same height creates a light that encompasses the entire table. Individual shadows almost completely disappear because each flame brightens the shadows of the others – the effect known from churches and old dining halls.
The polished silver enhances this: Over 95 percent of the light is reflected, and the curved arms scatter it in different directions. A candelabra of this size replaces the ceiling lighting in a medium-sized room – not in brightness, but in effect.
The Space for It
The candelabra shape is designed for round tables and room centers because it presents the same image from all sides. For long tables, it is better to use several single-flame candle holders arranged in staggered heights.
Twelve arms require floor space. Those who place this candelabra on a set table should factor in the radius of the crown – it extends further than the height suggests.
Even When Unused
Such pieces spend most of their time without candles, and they are built for this. The chased baluster shaft and the tendril base create an effect on their own; the dense arm crown creates a silhouette against a light wall that one would more likely attribute to a piece of furniture than a candelabra.
A sideboard, a console, or a tall display cabinet are suitable places. With twelve arms, a soft brush is recommended once a month – dust settles in the crown and can be effortlessly removed early on.
Candles and Wax
Taper candles of usual thickness. Lift off wax residues after brief cooling; never use a blade – silver is softer than steel.
Engraving
The wide foot rim can accommodate an occasion, date, or company logo. A piece of this size is often given for significant anniversaries, and the engraving commemorates the occasion. Our guide on engraving services describes how a logo becomes an engraving. Upon request, we can include a SilverVerse card.
Care
Hand wash with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. Do not use a dishwasher. Clean arms with a narrow cloth, chasing with a soft brush; the darker depth in the depressions is part of the piece. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and tableware.
