Material and craftsmanship

Both cups are made of 925 sterling silver and feature the same niello engraving: stylized turtle dove volutes embedded in floral acanthus ornaments, hand-engraved in line relief. The dark contour is created by niello—a black inlay that is fused into the engraved lines, sanded flat, and polished like ink in silver. Unlike many SevChern pieces, this set intentionally omits gilding: the contrast relies solely on the polished silver against the deep black niello, offering a more purist, modern appearance than gilded versions. In the center of each cup, an oval medallion is left intentionally blank—as a space for engraving. The cups are crafted by the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, where the niello tradition has been documented since 1683.

Use and occasions

As a wedding gift, the two cups represent two people at the beginning of their journey together. For a silver anniversary after 25 years or a golden anniversary after 50 years, the turtle dove symbolism takes on added weight—lifelong devotion is no longer just an intention, but a lived experience. The cups are also a fitting choice as a gift for an anniversary or for a spontaneous occasion where a couple wants to toast.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The empty medallion in the center of the engraving is intended for personalization: the bridal couple's names, the wedding date, or a short dedication. Only with this engraving does the cup set become a unique item that belongs to just one pair. With every personalized piece, we include a free SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape) designed individually with a dedication. Simply specify your request when ordering.

Care

Hand wash with warm water, no dishwasher, no abrasive cleaners. Dry well after washing and polish with a soft silver polishing cloth if necessary. The niello ornament requires no special care and is not affected by contact with moisture—with each polish, the contrast between the silver and niello actually becomes clearer.

Frequently asked questions

What does the turtle dove motif signify?

Turtle doves are considered a symbol of lifelong devotion in many cultures because they remain bonded to their partner for life. This is why the motif was chosen for this wedding set: two turtle doves, two cups, one couple.

Why is the set not gilded?

That is a conscious decision: pure silver with niello has a more purist and clear effect than gilded versions. The contrast between the polished silver and the black niello is highlighted most effectively this way—suitable for anyone who prefers a minimalist style.

Is the empty medallion intended for engraving?

Yes, that is exactly what it is for. The oval field in the center of the engraving awaits the names of the bridal couple, the wedding date, or a dedication. With an engraving, the set becomes a personal unique item, and we include a free SilberVerse card for it.
