Material and craftsmanship

The corkscrew is made of 925 sterling silver, i.e., 92.5% pure silver. The recumbent tiger is sculpted in three dimensions — the mouth is slightly open, the paws are individually recognizable, and the fur markings are laid out as a fine longitudinal structure across the entire body. Below it, the platform bears acanthus and palmette ornamentation, which one would otherwise more likely encounter on classic tableware.

The recesses of the reliefs are finished with an antique patina: a deliberate oxidation that allows light and shadow to interact and makes the relief stand out plastically. This is not niello work — niello is a different, independent Russian silversmithing technique involving a fused black sulfur-silver paste. Here, it is a classic oxide patina. The raised areas can be carefully polished if necessary, while the recesses retain their depth.

Care

Wipe dry after use — no dishwasher, no abrasive sponge. If necessary, clean with lukewarm water and mild dish soap and then dry with a soft cloth. Does the patina become lighter or darker over time?

Silver oxidizes only very slowly in normal room air; when stored in a dry place, the appearance remains stable for a long time. Should the raised areas appear lighter later on, they can be carefully polished with a soft silver polishing cloth without affecting the recesses of the patina.
