In the Relief collection, the niello ornamentation is not present on both sides of each piece — a deliberate decision by the manufacturer to emphasize the contrast between the worked and unworked surfaces. An exception is the knife handles: they are decorated with niello on both sides, so that the dinner knife displays the same floral-playful pattern from both sides. Niello is a centuries-old technique in which a dark silver-sulfur alloy is fused into fine, hand-engraved lines. The result is not a coating, but an integral part of the silver — the contrasts even deepen with every polish rather than fading.

Material and craftsmanship

Each of the four pieces consists of 925 sterling silver, the internationally recognized standard for tableware. The oval cartouches at the end of the handle bear the relief flower pattern: hand-engraved, filled with niello, and then polished until silver and niello stand side by side in the typical alternation of shine and matte black. This hand-engraving is not a personalization option, but part of the manufacturing process itself — every set bears the same meticulous pattern, with the small idiosyncrasies that only a master's hand leaves behind.

Care

Wash the cutlery by hand with warm water and a mild detergent and dry it immediately with a soft cloth — this prevents water spots and premature tarnishing. We advise against using the dishwasher: aggressive cleaners and high temperatures can damage both the silver surface and the niello ornamentation. It is best to store the set in the included gift box, protected from humidity. Should the silver tarnish slightly over time, a silver polishing cloth is sufficient to restore the shine — the niello contrasts will only become stronger rather than weaker.
