Description
The Astra Classic cake server combines the floral design language of the SevChern manufactory with warm gilding and the characteristic black of niello. On both sides of the handle, there is a silver panel featuring a floral niello ornament set within a geometric frame—a stylized blossom with buds and delicate leaf tendrils. The serving blade itself is smoothly gilded on the front, while the back features a fine, gold-toned floral engraving that fits harmoniously into the Astra Classic line. This transforms a functional item for the cake table into a small piece of silversmithing art.

Material and workmanship
The base is 925 sterling silver, refined with 24-karat gilding, which gives the serving blade its warm gold tone. Contrasting this on the handle is niello—a thousand-year-old technique in which a black inlay is melted into finely engraved lines, ground flush, and polished, much like ink in silver. Unlike lacquer, niello does not flake off but deepens its contrast with every polishing. The Astra Classic line features a stylized, open round blossom with visible petals, flanked by buds and finely crafted leaf tendrils—a botanical signature that runs throughout the manufactory's entire line.
Use and occasions
As a serving piece, this cake server is intended for those moments when the Sunday table becomes a small celebration—cutting the cake in front of guests, a festive afternoon coffee, or the first shared celebration with a new family. It is as fitting for a silver wedding anniversary—whose occasion is reflected in the very name of the material—as it is for a wedding gift for a young couple. Those who already own an Astra Classic tableware set will find this cake server to be the perfect addition to the serving side of the table, which is usually missing from standard cutlery sets.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
An engraving is not always possible for this piece, as the niello ornament runs along both sides of the handle and the gilded serving blade is unsuitable for engraving. If you would like a personal dedication, please ask our service team before ordering—we will check the possibilities for the specific piece. Regardless of this, we are happy to include a SilberVerse card in photo format upon request: 15 × 10 cm in landscape format, digitally designed, free of charge, and unique every time.
Care
The cake server is not dishwasher safe—aggressive cleaning tabs will damage both the gilding and the niello. Hand washing with warm water and a mild detergent is sufficient; dry thoroughly afterward. If tarnish appears on blank silver areas, a soft silver polishing cloth will help—however, it should not be used on the niello ornament, as it would unnecessarily strain the melted structure.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cake server suitable for everyday use?
Yes. The 925 silver cake server with a gilded serving blade is designed for regular use at the table, not just for the display cabinet.
Can I have it personally engraved?
That depends on the specific piece, as the niello ornament and gilding leave little free space. It is best to check with our service team before ordering.
How does Astra Classic differ from other lines from the manufactory?
Astra works with a round, stylized blossom and flowing leaf tendrils in an asymmetrical composition—other lines from the manufactory focus, for example, on rose motifs with symmetrical borders. The botanical language distinguishes each respective line.
