Cake server Astra Black - 925 silver, Niello design

Astra Black showcases the floral design language of the Astra line in its purest material form: no gold tone, no gilding, just the clear interplay of polished 925 sterling silver and black niello. On the handle, there is a geometrically framed panel on both sides featuring a stylized round blossom, surrounded by leafy vines and buds – the same botanical signature as the gold-plated Astra Classic, but reduced here entirely to a black-and-silver contrast. The serving blade remains smooth and polished on both sides, ensuring that the ornamentation is concentrated solely on the handle, where it stands out all the more clearly.

Material and workmanship

Without gilding, the niello technique is most prominent in Astra Black: a black inlay is fused into finely engraved lines, ground flush, and polished – like ink in silver, permanently bonded to the silver; no lacquer, no coating that could flake off. On the bright, polished base, the floral composition appears more graphic and clearer than in the gold-plated Astra variants, almost like a fine pen-and-ink drawing. With every polishing, the contrast between silver and black deepens further.

Usage and occasions

Those who wish to deliberately display a table setting entirely in silver will find Astra Black to be the perfect serving addition. The piece is just as suitable for a silver wedding anniversary as it is for a wedding gift for a couple with a preference for a restrained, graphic table aesthetic. For those who already own an Astra Black dinner service, this cake server fills the serving gap that plain cutlery sets usually leave open.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

A personal engraving is not guaranteed for every piece, as the niello ornament runs along both sides of the handle. Those wishing for an inscription should contact our service team before ordering – we will check the possibilities for the specific piece. Upon request, we can also include a SilberVerse card: 15 × 10 cm in landscape format, digitally designed, free of charge.

Care

Non-gold-plated silver requires a little more attention than gold-plated pieces: tarnishing patina appears faster here and should be removed regularly with a soft silver polishing cloth – though not on the niello ornament itself, to protect the fused structure. The dishwasher is off-limits; hand washing with warm water and a mild detergent is completely sufficient.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the silver in Astra Black tarnish faster than in the gold-plated variants?

Without a protective gold layer, bare silver reacts more directly to air and moisture. This is part of the material's character and can be easily remedied with a silver polishing cloth.

Is an engraving possible?

Not guaranteed, as the ornament runs along both sides of the handle. Please ask our service team before ordering, and we will check the available space on the specific piece.

How does Astra Black differ from Astra Classic?

Both feature the same floral composition. Astra Black completely omits gilding and remains in a black-and-silver contrast, whereas Astra Classic features a gold-plated serving blade and individual gold-plated petals.
