Material and workmanship

The creamer is crafted from 925 sterling silver with a matte and satin finish. Hand-engraved floral ornaments trail across the body, filled with black niello inlay—a central blossom is additionally highlighted in gold, creating a deliberate accent that catches the eye. Niello is a black inlay that is fused into the engraved lines, ground flush, and polished—like ink in silver—it is neither a coating nor a plating. The interior of the creamer is fully gilded, as are the upper rim, the spout, and the decorative bands. This gilding protects the silver from discoloration caused by milk, cream, or coffee and remains unchanged for years. The bulbous shape with a wide base provides stability, while the tapered body makes pouring easier. The handle is ergonomically curved and sits comfortably in the hand without the fingers needing to touch the silver body. From the SevChern workshop in Veliky Ustyug, which has maintained this long tradition of combining niello, gilding, and matte silver.
