24-piece silver cutlery set, 925 sterling silver, Niello finish | Astra Black

A 24-piece cutlery set made of 925 sterling silver without any gold plating — the Astra Black collection relies solely on hand-engraved niello floral motifs set against matte silver, with highly polished bowls and tines. Fully equipped for six people, this set is the minimalist version of the Astra line: no gold, just silver and black niello.

Material and craftsmanship

The matte 925 silver handles feature the hand-engraved niello floral motif on both sides: every line is hand-carved, and the black niello alloy is subsequently melted in. This lasting contrast between bright silver and dark niello requires no gold plating to be striking. The bowls of the spoons and the tines of the forks are highly polished, presenting food in a cool silver sheen; the dinner knife blades are made of matte 925 sterling silver and are functionally sharp. Unlike gold-plated Astra variants, Astra Black features no gold on the edges, ends, or bowls — just the engraver’s handiwork and the material itself. All pieces are hallmarked.

Usage and occasions

With over a kilogram of solid 925 silver, this set is suitable for weddings where a clean design is preferred over gold-decorated cutlery, as well as for modern, Scandinavian, or Bauhaus-style interiors. As a silver anniversary gift, the set represents a deliberate, long-lasting purchase; for collectors, the niello craftsmanship without gold plating is the rarer choice within the line. As a family heirloom, solid silver of this quality is designed to last for many generations.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

Upon request, we can engrave names, initials, or a date on selected pieces; since silver without gold plating is easily engraved, the effort here is less than with gold-plated variants. For individual requests regarding engraving patterns or special combinations, simply reach out to us. We can also include a personalized SilberVerse card in a 15 × 10 cm photo format — individually designed to suit the occasion and free of charge.

Care

Clean the set by hand with warm water and a mild detergent, then dry immediately. The dishwasher is unsuitable as it attacks the niello inlays. The highly polished surfaces can be refreshed with a soft linen cloth; you should avoid abrasive cleaners. With regular use, the silver will develop a natural patina, while the niello remains deep black. Store the cutlery in the included case.

Frequently asked questions

Why silver cutlery without gold plating?
The cool silver aesthetic complements modern, Scandinavian design and is easier to maintain because there is no delicate gold plating to protect. The hand-crafted niello provides a strong contrast even without gold.

What distinguishes Astra Black from other Astra variants?
Primarily the gold plating: other variants in the line feature gold-plated bowls, tines, edges, or ends. Astra Black remains entirely in highly polished silver without gold, while maintaining identical dimensions and weights.

Is the set available for immediate delivery?
The SevChern manufactory crafts upon order. Made-to-order is standard in this price segment and means fresh goods directly from the manufactory. You will receive the exact delivery time after your order.
