Material and craftsmanship
The Astra Black collection deliberately avoids gold plating, instead letting the dark niello decoration on the 925 sterling silver speak for itself. Each line of the floral ornament is first engraved, then filled with niello, fused, ground flat, and polished – like ink in silver, no lacquer that could peel off. The result is a calm, clear contrast that even deepens over time: when polishing the surrounding silver surfaces, the niello black stands out even more clearly.
Use and occasions
The set is suitable as table silver for your own home as well as a gift for a wedding, anniversary, or other special occasions. Those who prefer a restrained, puristic design language over gold-plated table silver will find the perfect alternative in Astra Black – clear in line, calm in effect, but with the same high standard of craftsmanship as the other Astra variants. As a single place setting, it can later be supplemented with further pieces from the same collection, for example when a second person joins the table.
Care
- Hand wash with warm water and mild detergent, then dry immediately
- No dishwasher – heat and aggressive cleaners will damage the niello inlays
- For polishing, treat only the silver surfaces; never the niello areas directly
- Store in a dry and protected place so that the silver and niello retain their contrast
Frequently asked questions
What distinguishes Astra Black from the other Astra variants?
Astra Black completely avoids gold plating. Other variants of the Astra collection combine niello with partial or full gold plating. Astra Black intentionally remains pure: silver and black, without gold.
What is the cutlery made of?
All four pieces are made of 925 sterling silver, i.e., 92.5% fine silver, with black niello decoration.
How do I care for niello silver cutlery without gold plating?
Hand wash with mild detergent, then dry immediately. Do not use a dishwasher or aggressive silver cleaners directly on the niello surfaces – this ensures the contrast between silver and black is maintained for years.
