Material and Workmanship

Both bowls are made of solid 925 sterling silver and feature the same floral niello ornament: blossoms and foliage, hand-engraved into the silver surface and filled with the dark niello alloy. After melting, the surface is polished until the niello is flush with the silver – no applied layer, no color layer, but a motif that remains part of the metal and, with time, gains contrast rather than fading through careful polishing. The set is manufactured by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, where the art of niello has been documented since 1683. Both parts bear the hallmark as proof of origin and authenticity.

Care Instructions

Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap, dry with a soft cloth. No dishwasher, no aggressive cleaning agents, no silver dip. Tarnish on the silver surface can be removed with a silver polishing cloth. The niello is insensitive to normal care.
