Description
The body is fully chased with acanthus scrolls, while the shoulder and spout remain smooth and polished. Its advantage over a carafe: no stopper, no narrow neck — which makes pouring at the table quicker and cleaning considerably easier. The manufacturer lists it as Jug Salome.

- Zaramella Argenti, Padua — manufacturer since 1948
Why internal gilding
The gilded interior is not an ornament, but craftsmanship with a purpose. Silver reacts with sulfur compounds and acid — which is uncritical with water, but not with juice, wine, or lemonade. An internal gilding places a chemically neutral layer between the drink and the silver. The taste remains unadulterated, and the inside does not tarnish where it couldn't be polished anyway.
Old silversmith work has shown this on cups, pitchers, and jugs for centuries. It's the reason why you can confidently fill a silver pitcher with juice.
Chased where you grip — smooth where you pour
The pitcher is divided into two zones. The bulbous lower part is entirely chased: acanthus scrolls, with umbels of flowers, hand-driven into the silver with punches. The upper half with the shoulder and spout remains smooth and polished.
This design is intentional. The chased body provides grip — a smooth silver surface becomes slippery when wet. The smooth spout, on the other hand, can be cleaned without residue and ensures a clean pour because no ornament breaks the stream. The handle is simply curved, without decoration, so that it sits comfortably in the hand.
Material and Origin
Solid silver is a prerequisite here, not an embellishment: Chasing would not be possible on a plating — it would tear during the process. Solid silver can also be repolished for generations without becoming thinner. Hallmarked by the manufacturer in Italy.
Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. The Signature line is the richly chased signature of the house.
On the table
Water, juice, wine — the pitcher holds enough for a table of six to eight people and is refilled between courses. It stands securely on a tray from the line and leaves no rings on the wood.
It also works as a flower vase: The wide mouth of approx. 17 cm can accommodate a lavish bouquet, and the internal gilding makes it impervious to flower water. Many place it in the center of the table specifically for this purpose when not set for dining.
Engraving
The smooth shoulder between the ornament and the spout is the designated area: a monogram, a date, a short dedication. It is at eye level when the pitcher stands and accessible from both sides. Engraving on request, placement will be coordinated beforehand. Upon request, we can include a SilverVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, currently free of charge.
Occasions
For weddings, housewarmings, silver anniversaries. As a gift for hosts who frequently and gladly set a table. A pitcher is used more often than a platter — therefore, it is a gift that is appreciated in everyday life and doesn't end up in a display cabinet.
Care
By hand with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly — including the inside, with a long soft cloth. No dishwasher: cleaning salts attack silver and would eventually damage the internal gilding. A soft brush is suitable for the chased body. Tarnishing only affects the outside and is reversible with a silver cloth; the darker depth can remain in the scrolls. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and silverware.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I pour juice or wine into it?
Yes. The internal gilding separates the drink from the silver, so neither the taste is affected nor the inside tarnishes. Rinse by hand and dry after use.
How much does the pitcher hold?
At approx. 28 cm height, the contents are sufficient for a table of six to eight people. We will provide the exact volume upon request.
Can it be used as a vase?
Yes — its shape and neck width allow for it. Those looking for a pure vase will find three in the line: the Baluster Vase, the Chased Vase, and the Pierced Amphora.
Solid or silver-plated?
Solid 925 sterling silver with a gilded interior, no silver plating. With official Italian hallmark.
Is it delivered in gift packaging?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.
Pitcher or Vase — Both
The manufacturer lists this piece as Jug Salome, i.e., as a pitcher. However, the shape allows for both: the wide body and the tall neck can hold a bouquet as well as a liquid.
Those looking for a pure vase will find three in the same line: the Baluster Vase with approx. 46 cm, the continuously chased one with approx. 46 cm, and the pierced Amphora with approx. 38 cm.
As a pitcher, it is similar to the carafes and pitchers in the line. Its advantage over a carafe: It has no stopper and no narrow neck — which makes it quicker for pouring juice or water at the table and considerably simplifies cleaning.
