Niello technique is a centuries-old art of silver ornamentation, which is still carried out in its original form in Veliky Ustyug. Precise depressions are worked into the silver and filled with a black enamel-like substance — niello. The result is high-contrast, finely drawn ornaments that stand out plastically from the shiny silver background. This stemmed glass features the characteristic niello patterns on the stem and cup.
