Description
In many Orthodox families, a child receives not only their name at baptism but also a patron saint — a saint who will accompany them through life. This 925 sterling silver baptismal spoon features an image of Saint Matrona of Moscow in red enamel and partial gilding, one of the most revered saints in the Orthodox Church. A sacred baptismal gift that will remain in the family for generations.
At a glance
- Material: 925 sterling silver, red enamel (cloisonné), partially gilded
- Length: 14 cm
- Weight: approx. 27 g
- Motif: Saint Matrona of Moscow (sculptural relief, gilded, red enamelled)
- Origin: Argenta (Russian silver manufactory)
- Fineness: 925 sterling silver
- Included: 1 baptismal spoon in a high-quality gift box
Material and craftsmanship
The red enamel is not an applied lacquer, but genuine enamel glass that is permanently fused to the silver using the traditional cloisonné technique: fine gold wires form small cells, which are filled with enamel powder and fired at around 800 degrees Celsius. This creates a glass-like, deep color effect that is UV-resistant and will last for decades. The image of Saint Matrona is sculpted in relief and gilded, the handle features Orthodox ornamental patterns, and the bowl is smoothly polished. The spoon is crafted by Argenta from genuine 925 sterling silver.
Use and occasions
This spoon is primarily given for Orthodox baptisms, often by godparents or grandparents, and is equally suitable for a birth or Orthodox holidays. In the Orthodox icon tradition, red represents life, joy, and protection and is often chosen for girls — a lovely guideline, even if color choice is free today. Saint Matrona of Moscow (1881–1952) is considered the patron saint of children, the sick, and pregnant women; her image on the spoon expresses the wish that the child may grow up protected and strengthened in faith.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
Engraving with a name, baptism date, or a short dedication is possible upon review — please contact our engraving service. Upon request, we can also include a personal SilberVerse card in photo format (15×10 cm landscape) — individually designed, tailored to the occasion, and free of charge, available to order with or without engraving.
Care
Clean the spoon only by hand with lukewarm water and mild dish soap, then dry immediately and occasionally polish with a silver polishing cloth. Do not use a dishwasher or abrasive cleaners — gentle cleaning protects the surface permanently. Store the spoon in a dry place in the included gift box.
