Material and workmanship

Both pieces are crafted from 925 sterling silver and feature the same floral ornamentation from the Nielloa Fantasie line: curved arabesques and floral shapes, hand-engraved into the surface and filled with niello. Niello is not a paint or coating, but a silver-copper-sulfur alloy that is melted into the engraved lines in an open flame and then fuses with the silver. It cannot peel off because it becomes part of the metal itself. With every polish, the contrasts between the bright silver and the dark ornament deepen — niello silver becomes more beautiful over time, not worse. The niello tradition from Veliky Ustyug has been documented since 1683; the current SevChern manufactory continues this craft. Three hallmarks confirm the authenticity of each piece: the 925 fineness mark, the manufacturer's mark, and the Russian state hallmark.

On the tea caddy, the ornament runs as a band around the body, while on the tea strainer spoon, it crowns the end of the handle — the same design on two forms. The pear-shaped, perforated strainer bowl of the spoon reliably holds back tea leaves without the need for a hook: simply immerse, steep, and remove.

For anyone who prefers loose tea to bags, this set is a thoughtful addition to the tea ritual: the caddy protects Darjeeling, Assam, or flavored blends from moisture and foreign odors, while the spoon handles the pouring without dripping on the tablecloth. Care

Clean both pieces by hand with warm water and mild dish soap; do not use a dishwasher. After washing, dry thoroughly and, if necessary, polish with a soft silver polishing cloth in circular motions. The niello ornament requires no special treatment — it does not react to moisture and does not fade. Store the tea caddy in a dry place and do not leave damp tea in it.
