A stemmed glass made of solid 925 sterling silver — crafted by the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, one of the oldest centers of Russian silversmithing. The traditional niello ornamentation, which wraps around the bowl in a wide band, makes this drinking vessel a piece of living table culture.

Material and workmanship

The niello technique is a centuries-old silver ornamentation art that is still practiced in its original form in Veliky Ustyug today. Precise depressions are worked into the silver and filled with a black enamel compound, the niello. The result is high-contrast, finely drawn ornaments that stand out plastically from the silver background. On this stemmed glass, a dense floral tendril band wraps around the upper bowl, underlaid by a warm, champagne-colored background, which additionally makes the ornamentation shine. At the foot, the motif continues in its own, narrower band.

The stemmed glass bears the Russian silver hallmark, which officially confirms the 925 silver content — a sign of solid, tested sterling silver instead of thin-walled mass-produced goods.
