Silver bowl 925 silver gold-plated basket

Some bowls are for filling, others for looking at – this one can do both. The basket-shaped silver bowl made of 925 sterling silver replicates a traditional wicker basket three-dimensionally in solid silver, completely gilded and decorated with a circumferential niello floral frieze. A twisted handle with a bow ornament completes the shape at the top.

Material and Workmanship

The wall of the bowl imitates fine wickerwork – a diamond pattern that becomes visible in the lower area and is transferred into solid, fully gilded silver. Above it runs a circumferential band with hand-engraved niello flowers and tendrils: dark contour lines on a golden background, which appear different depending on the viewing angle. The upper edge features a fine dentil frieze, and the inside of the bowl is also gilded. A twisted handle with a small bow ornament crowns the shape and turns the bowl into a portable basket. The niello technique from Veliky Ustyug permanently anchors the black silver alloy in the metal – it is chemically and physically bonded with the silver, not applied, and thus remains for decades.

Despite its compact dimensions, this bowl is versatile: as a jewelry tray on the nightstand, as a candy dish for festive occasions, or as a standalone collector's item behind glass. The continuous gilding gives the piece a warm tone that fits both modern and classic interiors.
