Silver bowl 925 silver gold-plated basket
Basket — Braided form in solid silver
Description
Some bowls are meant for filling, others for admiring – this one can do both. The basket-style silver bowl in 925 sterling silver replicates a traditional woven basket in three dimensions using solid silver, fully gold-plated and decorated with a circumferential niello floral frieze. A twisted handle with a bow ornament completes the shape at the top.
At a glance
- Material: 925 sterling silver, gold plating
- Decoration: Niello engraving (hand-engraved)
- Dimensions: approx. 39 × 43 × 67 mm
- Manufacturer: SevChern, Veliky Ustyug (Northern Russia)
- Included in delivery: Silver bowl in gift packaging
Material and craftsmanship
The walls of the bowl imitate fine wickerwork – a diamond pattern that becomes visible in the lower section and is rendered in solid, fully gold-plated silver. Above this runs a circumferential band with hand-engraved niello flowers and vines: dark contour lines on a golden background that appear different depending on the angle of view. The upper rim features a fine dentil frieze, and the interior of the bowl is also gold-plated. A twisted handle with a small bow ornament crowns the form, turning the bowl into a portable little basket. The niello technique from Veliky Ustyug anchors the black silver alloy permanently into the metal – it is chemically and physically bonded to the silver, not just applied, ensuring it lasts for decades.
Usage and occasions
Despite its compact dimensions, this bowl is versatile: as a jewelry dish on the nightstand, as a small confectionary bowl for festive occasions, or as a standalone collector's item behind glass. The all-over gold plating gives the piece a warm tone that fits into both modern and classic interiors. As a gift, the little basket is suitable for weddings, anniversaries, or as a small yet value-retaining token of appreciation.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
We check an individual engraving – initials, a date, or a dedication – on the piece after your order; simply add the flat fee for the engraving service to your cart right away. If an engraving is not possible, we will refund it. Additionally, we offer the SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape) – individually and digitally designed, tailored to the occasion and free of charge.
Care
Clean the gold-plated surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use a silver dip bath – this way, the gold plating and niello will be preserved permanently. Store in a dry place, ideally in the provided gift packaging.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the gold plating on 925 silver last?
With careful maintenance – no dishwasher, no silver bath, soft cloth – the gold plating on sterling silver is very durable. Regular, gentle polishing preserves the shine for decades.
Can I give the silver bowl as a wedding gift?
Yes – a gold-plated silver bowl with niello ornamentation is a stylish and value-retaining wedding gift.
What is niello?
Niello is one of the oldest refinement techniques: a black silver alloy is burned into finely engraved grooves and polished. The result is permanently high-contrast ornaments that do not peel off.
