Couronne Spirit Decanter — a little crown on your table
Even before you've poured a single drop, the stopper already captures attention at the table. It sits atop the bottle like a miniature crown: crown-shaped, with a gilded rim and its own niello lotus — a standalone piece of jewelry that coincidentally also serves as a closure. This is how every encounter with the Couronne begins: not with the contents, but with the form.
The bottle itself is bell-shaped. No handle, no spout, no frills. Wide at the bottom, narrow at the top — a conical silhouette so cleverly designed that it instantly feels right in your hand, without needing an explanation. At 270 ml and weighing approx. 221 g, the Couronne is the smallest gilded piece in the entire range. Not a large jug striving to impress with sheer mass — but a jewel that impresses with character. Small enough for an intimate dinner, large enough not to be overlooked.
Three golden bands divide the bottle: one above the decorative frieze, one below it, the third at the foot. They frame the center without enclosing it. For between these golden lines lies the true heart of the piece: a wide frieze of niello arabesques that symmetrically encircles the entire belly of the bottle. Palmettes and lotus blossoms, geometrically floral, almost Art Deco in its severity — and yet warm due to the deep contrast between black niello and white silver with golden accents.
Couronne means crown. The stopper is a crown. The smallest piece of the gilded series crowns the collection — not by size, but by character.
Niello Arabesques — Symmetry you can feel
Arabesques are not random ornaments. What at first glance appears to be a decorative pattern is the result of geometric thinking, perfected in the Islamic Middle Ages and further developed in Russian silversmithing: infinite repetition, radial symmetry, the rhythm between blossom and leaf. On the Couronne, these arabesques appear as palmettes and lotus blossoms that mirror and complement each other — exactly as on a carpet, only in black and silver on metal.
What's special: The stopper has its own motif. It doesn't simply repeat the frieze pattern; it features a standalone lotus niello — a separate composition on a tiny surface, demonstrating the precision of the engraving work in Veliky Ustyug. Stopper and bottle belong together; each part is complete in itself. When the stopper rests on the table, it remains a piece of jewelry.
Behind this work is the SevChern manufactory from Veliky Ustyug — a city in northern Russia where niello engraving has been alive since the 17th century. Each piece goes through 15 steps there: shaping, annealing, chasing, hand engraving, niello melting, cooling, multiple grinding, polishing. The niello inlay is not a coating that peels off over time — it is a chemical-physical bond with the base metal. Silver in silver. No lacquer, no print, no foil.
If you want to compare decanters from the SevChern workshop: The Opulence line features gold in the blossoms themselves — more ornamental, heavier, more gleam. The Classique uses baroque cartouches with figural elements. The Relief series works with a sculpturally raised ribbon ornament. Of all three, the Couronne is the most compact and personal — a piece you hold in one hand, not set down on the table to admire.
Liqueur, spirits, fine oil — 270 ml for special drops
270 ml. That's less than half a wine bottle — and that's precisely the principle. The Couronne isn't designed for large pours. It's the spirit decanter for that fruit brandy that's been waiting for you in the cellar. The liqueur someone brought that you don't want to serve in its original bottle. Plum schnapps from the home distillery. Walnut liqueur from your last trip. Anything too special to appear on the table in its original bottle.
No handle means: the bottle rotates easily in your hand; you control the pouring with your thumb and fingers. Those who want to pour slowly, pour slowly. The crown-shaped stopper seals securely — aroma remains, alcohol doesn't evaporate. For fine dining, characteristic oil or vinegar is also recommended: a good olive oil, a mild balsamic. The food-safe processing and 925 sterling silver make the Couronne suitable for this as well. Russian silversmithing was never just decorative — it was always functional too.
As a spirit decanter for the table: Place the Couronne between the glasses. It doesn't need a special spot. On the sideboard, on the tray, in the display cabinet — wherever it stands, it stands as a sculpture. As a serving bottle made of gilded 925 silver, it has no comparison to glass decanters or gilded decanter imitations. Here, the material is real, the craftsmanship verifiable, the value calculable.
As a pouring vessel for special drops, the Couronne is also a gift that remains long after the contents have been enjoyed. For men who appreciate whisky, cognac, or fruit brandy — for women who pour liqueur or fine oil from beautiful vessels — for couples who furnish their table with meaning.
Engraving & SilberVerse
The Couronne is compact, but not inconspicuous. A personal engraving can find its place on the bell-shaped wall — a date, a name, a short dedication. Engraved between the arabesques or on the unengraved back. Call or write us — we will discuss the possibilities before the piece goes into production.
With a hand engraving, the spirit decanter becomes unique: no other piece will then bear the same combination of motif and personal dedication. A birthday, an anniversary, an occasion that should be inscribed on silver.
Upon request, we include a personal SilberVerse card in photo format (10x15 cm) — individually designed, suitable for the occasion, and currently free of charge. Each card is unique: conceived by us for you and your recipients, with the right tone for the moment. Can also be ordered without engraving — simply note it at the time of purchase or contact us briefly.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Couronne
What does "Couronne" mean and why is this decanter named after it?
Couronne is the French word for crown. The name says it all: The bottle's stopper is crown-shaped, with a gilded rim and its own niello lotus motif on the top surface. It literally crowns the bottle — and as the smallest gilded decanter in the range, it crowns the entire series through its character, not its size.
What contents is the Couronne suitable for — only spirits, or also others?
The Couronne is suitable for all food-safe liquids: spirits, fruit brandy, liqueur, cognac, whisky, grappa — but also fine oil, balsamic, or aromatic vinegars. The 925 sterling silver with gilding is food-safe. The tightly sealing stopper preserves the aroma. As a silver table decanter, it is suitable for any drop that deserves a dignified appearance.
How do niello arabesques differ from other ornamentation techniques?
Niello is not a paint or lacquer — it is a melted metal alloy that is applied to hand-engraved depressions and forms a chemical-physical bond with the silver. The result is more durable than any surface coating: niello does not chip, fade, or wash off. Over time, the contrast even deepens with polishing. Arabesques as a motif — geometrically floral symmetry of palmettes and lotus blossoms — are one of the oldest ornamental styles in the world and stand for durability and depth of craftsmanship.
Is the Couronne suitable as a gift — and for what occasions?
Yes — the Couronne is a classic gift for anyone who appreciates pleasure and aesthetics. Particularly suitable as a luxury gift for men (birthday, significant anniversary, promotion), as a wedding gift for couples who furnish their table with meaning, as an anniversary gift for business partners, or as a Christmas gift for connoisseurs. If you want to give a fruit brandy, grappa, or liqueur, you can present it directly in the decanter — making the contents a gift within a gift. Also as a silver wedding gift, the Couronne with its crown stopper carries symbolic meaning that goes beyond the decorative.
How do I care for a gilded silver decanter with niello?
Hand wash with lukewarm water and a mild detergent — no dishwasher. The niello is durable and easy to care for: a soft cloth is sufficient to remove fingerprints. The gilding is preserved if you avoid abrasive agents or hard scouring pads. Dry immediately after rinsing — standing water leaves marks on silver. With regular polishing using a silver polishing cloth, the niello contrast deepens over time — the piece becomes more beautiful the more it is used.
