Material and Workmanship

Niello is not a coating, but a black metal alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is melted, fired, and chemically bonded into engraved depressions with the base silver. What results cannot be detached, washed off, or polished away. Engravers draw each line into the silver with a burin — blossoms, tendrils, leaves in a botanical style, as cultivated in the niello tradition of Veliky Ustyug. The sugar bowl is made by SevChern, a manufactory that has practiced this niello technique for many decades.

Usage and Occasions

In the Floralis tea set, the sugar bowl is central to the table — it is not passed around, it stands, and everyone helps themselves. The same floral niello ornament is also found on the teapot (550 ml), the coffee pot (800 ml), and the milk jug (220 ml) of the collection. The service can be customized upon request — for 2, 4, 6, or more people, individually or as a set. Care

Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild dish soap — no dishwasher, no silver dip. The niello ornament is permanently fused; normal cleaning will not harm it. Freshen the matte surface with a soft silver polishing cloth. Store in the gift box.
