A band of floral ornaments of blossoms and tendrils, hand-engraved and filled with niello, encircles the body — along with large gilded areas on the lid, handle, and ornamental band, which stand as a warm accent between the deep niello-black and the frosted silver.

Material and Workmanship

The ornament on this sugar bowl is hand-engraved — every line drawn by a graver — and filled with niello: a black metal alloy that is melted into the engraved depressions at high temperatures and chemically bonded with the base silver. The result is insoluble and does not fade. The Botanica line is manufactured by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, a manufacturer with a long niello tradition. The sugar bowl bears the Russian state hallmark as proof of origin.

Usage and Occasions

The sugar bowl from the Botanica collection is included in the complete 23-piece tea set (SW10205) and matches the teapot (SW10178, 500 ml), the cups (SW10145, 85 ml), the saucers (SW10162), and the milk jug (SW10190, 180 ml). Care

Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild detergent — no dishwasher, no silver dip, as the gilding would suffer. The niello band is permanently fused and tolerates normal cleaning without damage. Polish the gilded parts only with a soft cloth. Store in the gift box.
