Material and craftsmanship

The ornament on this sugar bowl is hand-engraved—each line drawn by a burin—and filled with niello: a black metal alloy that is fused into the engraved recesses at high temperatures and chemically bonded to the base silver. The result is permanent and will not fade. The Botanica line is crafted by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, a manufactory with a long tradition of niello work. The sugar bowl is hallmarked.

Usage and occasions

The sugar bowl from the Botanica collection is included in the complete 23-piece tea service (SW10205) and matches the teapot (SW10178, 500 ml), the cups (SW10145, 85 ml), the saucers (SW10162), and the creamer (SW10190, 180 ml). Care

Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild dish soap—do not use a dishwasher or silver dip, as the gilding would suffer. The niello band is permanently fused and can withstand regular cleaning without damage. Polish the gilded parts only with a soft cloth. Store in the gift case.
