Description
Description
A 3-piece 925 sterling silver tableware set for a son, grandson, or godson: a children's cup (150 ml) with an ornamental handle and a 3D boy relief, a matching teaspoon with a boy sculpture on the stem top, and an oval plate with two side handles. Three pieces from the Royal Childhood line by ArgentA — classic Russian silver tableware for children that will still be in the family cabinet in 30 years. The set comes in the original orange and gold gift box with a crown and tree motif.
What do grandparents give when their grandchild sits at the table for the first time and they don't want the gift to get lost among plush toys and plastic? Three silver pieces that together form a starter tableware set — a cup for drinking, a spoon for scooping, a plate with handles for serving. How do you find a godfather's gift that won't disappear into a drawer after three months, but will be brought to the table for every family celebration? A 3-piece silver set whose boy figure, a small character with a cap and satchel, accompanies the son for years. What do parents want whose son has just been baptized and who desire an heirloom that can also be used by a grandchild or great-grandchild? A line where other matching pieces (fork, knife, additional cups) can be purchased later — Royal Childhood as a family emblem across generations.

What makes this tableware set for a son valuable
At first glance, it's three silver pieces in a gift box. At second glance, it's a starter set that accompanies a son from his first independent drink to school age. The cup holds 150 ml — enough for a whole gulp of juice, small enough for a child's hand. The teaspoon, at 145 mm, is larger than a classic baby spoon and suitable for the phase when the boy spoons for himself. The plate with two handles serves as a bread or fruit plate — not as a main meal plate, but as a representative piece handed to the mother at mealtime, or as a display piece with the birth engraving. Three pieces, three periods, one line.
The boy with cap and satchel — the boy figure of the line
On the cup and at the top of the spoon's handle sits a small 3D sculpture of a boy with a cap and a bag or satchel in his hand — a character from classic Russian imagery, showing the son as a little student or marcher. The figure is not chosen by chance: in Russian folklore tradition, the boy-with-satchel symbolizes education, new beginnings, and growing into manhood. Unlike an animal motif (bear, frog, duckling), this figure is human — the son will later recognize himself in the piece. For families with daughters, there is a mirror-image girl's version with braids and a dress, so siblings can receive gifts together.
Three pieces, three phases — how the set grows with the son
The set is not designed for an infant. The pieces unfold their meaning in the son's first years of life:
- Cup (from approx. 12 months): first independent drinking vessel. 150 ml is enough volume, the ornamental handle fits in a child's hand. The boy figure on the front greets the son daily.
- Teaspoon (from approx. 18 months): at 145 mm, larger than a baby spoon — suitable for toddlers who begin to eat by themselves. Later becomes a classic tea or dessert spoon.
- Handled plate (anytime): as a bread plate, fruit or sweets dish at the table. Also as a display piece with the birth engraving — a component of the family silverware.
When the son outgrows daily use, the set moves to the family shelf and is brought out for celebrations.
The ornamental volute handles — classic Russian silver craftsmanship
Both the cup handle and the two side handles of the plate are crafted with volutes and flourishes — small, rolled reliefs that have adorned classic tableware in the Russian goldsmithing tradition for generations. The volutes are not applied but forged from the silver itself and polished. This detailed work is why the set is not a DoDo learning tool — there are no tactile bubbles on the stem, no colorful curves on the handle, no speech therapy arguments here. Instead: the tableware experience, as passed down in Russian families for decades.
Royal Childhood as a Tableware Tradition
The Royal Childhood line from the ArgentA manufacture takes its name from the Russian tradition of courtly children's equipment — godchildren of nobles were formerly gifted with silver table settings that remained in the family cabinet for a lifetime. Over the years, the line has grown to include a broad family of matching pieces: cups, mugs, spoons, forks, knives, plates, bowls — all with coordinated ornamentation, crafted using the traditional guilloche technique of the Russian goldsmithing school. Those who present the set as a birth or baptism gift can later purchase additional cups and forks or a soup spoon from the same line — Royal Childhood as a growing family emblem.
Engraving upon request — all three parts engravable
Unlike the 2-piece DoDo sets (spoon with rattle or teether), here all three pieces are engravable. Recommended configurations:
- Cup: Name + birth date on the front or subtly beneath the boy relief
- Teaspoon: Name on the back of the stem (approx. 12–18 characters)
- Handled plate: more detailed dedication in the center of the plate base (less visible during daily use, fully legible when displayed)
Please contact us before ordering — we will configure the engravings to suit the occasion. With an engraving order, we include a free SilberVerse card — a handwritten poem, individually tailored to the occasion and printed on photographic paper.
Caring for Premium Tableware
Clean the cup, teaspoon, and plate by hand with warm water and mild dish soap, then dry with a soft cloth. For polished 925 silver surfaces, a silver polishing cloth is sufficient to remove light tarnish — the ArgentA manufacture already manually polishes the pieces with cotton rollers before shipping, and the shine lasts for decades with careful maintenance. Do not treat the volute handles and 3D boy reliefs with abrasive cleaners — the fine reliefs could otherwise become dull. Both pieces are not dishwasher safe. For storage, the original Royal Childhood box remains the best solution — it is designed for decades of storage and protects against dust and tarnishing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a DoDo set for the weaning phase?
No. This is classic children's tableware from about 12 months. There are no tactile bubble reliefs (DoDo line), no speech therapy arguments, and no learning tool function. If you are looking for a DoDo set for infants, you can find the version with a bear cup and engravable baby spoon as a Teddy Bear Set for Girls or a Pendant for Boys.
What is the difference from the girls' version?
The set architecture, cup shape, handles, and plate are identical. In the girls' version, the 3D figure shows a girl with braids and a dress instead of a boy with a cap and satchel.
What engraving do you recommend?
Classic: Name + birth date on the spoon and cup, more detailed dedication on the plate base. Some families engrave birth date + baptism date or name + godparent's name instead. Long first names are best abbreviated for engraving.
Can the set be extended later?
Yes. Matching additions are available from the Royal Childhood line — forks, knives, larger cups, additional plates. Upon request, we can curate an extended set configuration together with you.
Is 925 silver safe for daily use?
Yes. 925 Sterling Silver is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper — both metals are food-safe and harmless to health. Silver also has natural antibacterial properties. The ArgentA manufacture produces the silver directly in its own factory and manually inspects each piece.
