The ball head of this baby rattle in 925 sterling silver carries flowers, leaves and tendrils all the way round, and a large daisy. At the grip end of the handle a smooth panel is left free, which can take a short name, a date or initials.

At the grip end of the handle a smooth oval surface is left free, with flourishes edging it at the bottom. Engraving is done only there; the ball and the handle keep their relief. The panel is small and holds up to 10 characters, enough for a short first name such as “Mia”, a date such as 03.05.2027 or the child's initials.

The engraving service fee is added to the basket together with the rattle. Do not let the “20 characters” in the name of the fee confuse you: it is designed for smooth handles, and on this rattle the panel holds 10. We then discuss the wording with you; engraving adds 1–3 working days. Rattles that are engraved to your specifications are excluded from the right of withdrawal. So only order the engraving once the text is settled.

Daisy Ball Rattle in Silver: Relief All the Way Round

The large daisy has many narrow petals arranged around a grained centre. The ball is designed the same on both sides. Around the daisy, leaves and tendrils grow over the whole ball, worked deeply enough that you can trace them with a finger. The loop sits beneath the ball. The handle begins with a row of small leaf motifs, followed by a shell ornament, then the smooth panel. The whole piece measures approx. 13 cm and weighs approx. 28 g, although an individual piece may be slightly above or below that. The manufacturer is Zaramella Argenti in Italy.

Daisy or Flower: Two Sisters on the Same Handle

The ball rattle with a flower has the same handle, the same panel and the same dimensions. On its ball, however, a few broad petals lie around a finely gridded centre, whereas here there are many narrow ones. Whether you choose the daisy or the flower is a matter of taste, not of engraving space. Both are among the silver baby rattles.

When the Name Is Settled, and When It Is Not
