Material and craftsmanship

The mug is crafted from solid 925 sterling silver and features a band encircling the vessel with the crayfish medallion, framed by floral scrollwork. Each line is hand-engraved and fused with niello in the flame — a chemical-physical bond with the silver, not a lacquer or color layer that could peel off. The interior is lightly gold-plated, the foot ring is wide enough for stability, and the curved handle rests firmly in the hand. The SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug crafts this motif in several steps, from engraving to the final polish. We curate this piece for our silver cosmos, while it is produced in the Russian tradition of silversmithing.

Usage and occasions

In Russia, river crayfish are as synonymous with beer as pretzels are in Bavaria — *Raki i pivo*, crayfish and beer, is a combination that appears on the table throughout every Russian summer. The crayfish medallion on this mug speaks to precisely this dining culture, to long summer evenings by the river. At the same time, the Cancer is the zodiac sign for anyone born between June 22 and July 22 — a gift that is more personal than any engraving, because the motif itself carries the message. For Father’s Day, a milestone birthday, or as a gift for anglers who know the river crayfish and the patience required by the water, this mug is a piece that stays in the memory. The mug is as suitable for enjoying beer as it is for display in a cabinet.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

Before engraving, we check whether and where there is space for a personal inscription — initials, a date, or a family crest can be engraved on the handle or foot ring depending on the position. With every personalization, we provide a complimentary SilberVerse card in 15 × 10 cm photo format (landscape) — digitally designed and written exclusively for this gift.

Care

925 sterling silver needs very little, but the right care: hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap; do not put in the dishwasher. The niello engraving remains unchanged — it does not oxidize and will not fade. If the silver tarnishes, a soft silver polishing cloth will help. With every polish, the contrasts between the bright silver and the deep niello black deepen — the mug becomes more beautiful, not more worn, over time.

Frequently asked questions

Can you actually drink beer from a silver mug?

Yes — silver does not impart any taste of its own. After use, hand washing with warm water and mild dish soap is sufficient; no dishwasher.

What does the crayfish motif mean?

In Russian dining culture, the river crayfish represents the classic beer accompaniment, comparable to the pretzel with beer in Bavaria. At the same time, the Cancer is the zodiac sign for those born between June 22 and July 22 — a gift with a double meaning.

Is an engraving possible?

Yes, upon review. You can add the engraving service flat fee to your shopping cart directly with the mug; afterward, we will coordinate with the manufactory to determine where on the handle or foot ring there is space for initials, a date, or a crest, and confirm the text with you. If the engraving is not possible, we will refund the flat fee.
