Two horizontal niello bands with baroque cartouches and lotus blossoms wrap around the silver body, sealed with a stopper lid featuring a silver knob. Its 340 ml capacity is sufficient for eight to ten generous cognac snifters.

Two horizontal niello bands run along the body of the decanter, precisely placed and symmetrically aligned. Between the friezes, lotus blossoms and cartouches alternate—a classic composition drawing from 18th-century European silversmithing, yet gaining a depth through the niello technique that no printing or etching process can achieve. Without a handle, the decanter is exceptionally elegant to hold and pour: you tilt it slowly, the stopper is ready, and the contents flow smoothly from the neck.

Material and craftsmanship

Niello is not a paint, lacquer, or coating. It is a black inlay that is fused into the engraved lines, ground flat, and polished—like ink in silver. The motif becomes part of the metal—not applied, but inscribed. At the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, each piece undergoes up to 15 individual processes before it leaves the workshop. The bright sterling silver and the nearly black niello drawing form a contrast that deepens with polishing—the decanter becomes more beautiful over the years. Each finished piece is hallmarked.

340 ml is intended for mindful enjoyment: cognac, Armagnac, fruit brandy, aged whisky, or Calvados—or an extraordinary olive oil for the connoisseur's table. The tight seal preserves aromas for hours. Care

A soft cloth, lukewarm water—that is all the decanter needs. No silver dip, as this can damage the niello inlay. No dishwasher. The stopper should be cleaned separately and stored dry.

Why does this decanter not have a handle?
This is a deliberate design choice. The Classique decanter is conceived as a spirit bottle—you hold it by the body and the neck, just like a bottle of fine cognac. This gives it elegance when pouring.

Is the decanter suitable for daily use or only for decoration?
Both. 925 sterling silver consists of 92.5% fine silver, is durable, and is perfectly suited for spirits and oils. The stopper seals reliably. At the same time, even when empty, it acts as a decorative piece on a sideboard or tray.

What is niello and how does it differ from a standard engraving?
With standard engraving, metal is removed. Niello goes further: a black inlay is fused into the indentations, ground flat, and polished—like ink in silver. The result is a deep black-and-silver contrast that does not fade and even deepens with polishing.
