Description
The most representative set in the line below the grand ensemble. Gold is applied to the sculptural, protruding parts on both pieces — and because the gold application comes from a single production run, the tones match perfectly. If purchased separately, they may vary slightly, which is only noticeable when both are standing side by side.
At a glance
- Eliyahu set made of 925 sterling silver, partially gold-plated
- Cup approx. 33 cm, plate approx. 28 × 28 cm — combined silver weight approx. 2.03 kg
- Gold-plated: leaf tips on the cup, corner volutes on the plate
- Inside of the cup fully gold-plated, base approx. 15 cm
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua — manufacture since 1948
When size and gold come together
Both features of this set aim for the same thing: visibility from a distance.
The size ensures that the cup rises above plates, glasses, and candles — a prerequisite for it to be noticed at all at a long banquet table.
The partial gold-plating solves a second problem: from five or six meters away, chased silver blurs into a uniformly bright surface. The relief is there, but no longer legible. Gold reflects light in a warmer, darker tone; the color difference carries further than the difference in height. Thus, the structure of the piece remains intact even where the ornament itself blurs.
Together, this creates an ensemble that is recognizable from every seat at a table for twenty people as what it is meant to be: the centerpiece.
One rule for both pieces
What is gold-plated is what stands out in relief — on the cup, the free-standing leaf tips and the leaves on the node; on the plate, the four corner volutes. The flat ornament in between remains silver.
Because the same rule applies to both pieces, the gold lies at the same level of perception. Sets that are gold-plated arbitrarily — a band here, a surface there — appear restless when placed together; this one does not.
It is manufactured in two steps: First, both parts are completely finished, then all surfaces intended to remain silver are masked off, and only the exposed parts are gold-plated. With protruding leaf tips involving undersides and undercuts, this masking process is the actual work.
The fifth cup
On Seder night, four cups of wine stand on the table from which one drinks — for the four promises of liberation from the story of the Exodus. A fifth is filled but not drunk: the Kos shel Eliyahu.
It belongs to the prophet Elijah, whose coming heralds the future redemption. Towards the end of the evening, the front door is opened to welcome him — in many families, a child goes to do this.
Material and origin
The advantage of solid silver over silver-plated goods is twofold for a cup: chasing only works in solid silver — a plating would tear during hammering — and the interior gold-plating protects exactly where one cannot polish. A cup that is filled over decades needs both. The cup and plate carry the hallmark.
Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. The ornaments of the Signature line are chased — driven into the silver by hand using punches.
As a gift
As a donation to a community, for a golden wedding anniversary, as an honorary gift for a major milestone. At this price point, multiple givers usually pool their resources — a family together, or a circle of friends.
A complete ensemble in this design is the gift for occasions where the effort itself is part of the message.
Engraving
On the cup, the smooth base rim with a diameter of approx. 15 cm remains, while on the plate, the center (well) and the back are suitable. No engraving is done on the gold-plated parts — the gold layer would be damaged there. We will coordinate the placement and line arrangement with you in advance. Upon request, we will enclose a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, free of charge.
Care
Clean by hand with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly — including the inside of the cup. No dishwasher. Wipe the gold-plated parts dry only: gold is softer than silver, and polishing paste would attack the thin layer. Work carefully around the free-standing leaf tips; hold the cup by the node or the base. More in our guide on caring for silver cutlery and tableware.
Frequently asked questions
Are both parts included in the delivery?
Yes — the partially gold-plated Jumbo cup, approx. 33 cm and the partially gold-plated plate, approx. 28×28 cm, from one production run and in one package.
How does it differ from the silver Jumbo set?
Only in the gold-plating. Form, dimensions, and weight are identical — the protruding parts are gold-plated.
Does the gold-plating wear off?
Not with normal use. The gold-plated parts are raised and are only wiped dry when cleaning.
Is the set kosher?
We carry silver items and describe their use — we cannot provide religious legal advice. Questions regarding ritual suitability should be answered by your community.
Is it delivered in a gift box?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.
The most elaborate set in the range
It consists of the partially gold-plated Jumbo cup and the partially gold-plated plate, approx. 28×28 cm — the largest combination in the line that features gold.
For collectors, this is the point where the range reaches its peak before shifting into a different category: the ensemble with the 50 cm cup is larger but lacks gold-plating, and due to its size, it belongs more in a hall than on a family table.
Without gold, the same size level is led by the Jumbo set, and one size smaller is the partially gold-plated set at approx. 28.5 cm.
As the largest gold-plated set in the range, this set is a piece for display. In a glass cabinet with a high shelf or on a sideboard, it remains visible throughout the year — and slowly gains contrast, as the silver parts tarnish over time while the gold parts remain as they are.
