Materials and craftsmanship
The keychain features a round medallion with a stylized dragon’s head in niello inlay, polished on both sides and attached to a classic key ring with a fine silver chain—sturdy enough for everyday use on your key ring. The teaspoon has a classically curved handle with an oval finial; a dragon winds along the end of the handle as a niello design, each scale carefully crafted, while the bowl is polished to a high shine for everyday use.
What you see on both pieces is genuine niello inlay: a black silver-sulfide compound fused into engraved silver, then filed flush and polished. The black sits level with the silver, deep and glossy like fresh ink on paper—and as durable as the silver itself. This niello tradition from Veliky Ustyug has been documented in writing since 1683; the SevChern workshop continues it to this day. Unlike a superficial patina, niello is an inlay, not an applied finish—which gives the dragon on this set its lasting durability and striking contrast.

925 sterling silver with genuine niello inlay: niello is not a component of the silver that can be removed with standard silver polish—it sits level with the silver and, with normal care, lasts for generations. Clean the keychain and spoon by hand only, using warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth; never put them in the dishwasher. If the silver surfaces tarnish, a soft silver polishing cloth without abrasives will restore their shine without affecting the niello. Wipe dry after use and store in the presentation case, which protects against exposure to air and slows natural tarnishing.
