Material and workmanship

The Astra pattern is the signature of the Astra Classic collection: a floral vine ornament, which is first worked into the silver with fine deep engraving. The engraving is then filled with black niello compound and polished – a technique that could aptly be described as "ink in silver." Niello is neither a lacquer nor an applied paint, but a metal alloy that chemically and physically bonds with the silver. As a result, the contrast remains permanent and even intensifies with every polish. The spoon is additionally gold-plated, allowing warm gold and deep black to meet on the same piece. A Russian silversmithing tradition is embedded in every step of the creation of this spice spoon.

Care
