Silver Mocha Cup 925 Niello 60 ml — Peonia

Sometimes, the entire weight of a moment is captured in a small cup. The Peonia mocha cup, crafted from 925 sterling silver, holds exactly 60 ml — and features a baroque peony motif in niello inlay, an elegant chalice on a trumpet base, and a curved S-shaped handle. This is no ordinary espresso vessel, but a piece to be contemplated before being enjoyed in the hand.

Material and Craftsmanship

Large, stylized peonies with fan-shaped leaves unfold on the cup's surface — densely composed, symmetrical, and finished with a precision that only emerges when silver and black inlay are fused together. Niello is not a paint, a lacquer, or a coating: the glossy black inlay is fused into engraved lines, ground flush, and polished — like ink in silver, a process involving 15 steps and a tradition from Veliky Ustyug that spans over 340 years. The polished surface inside the cup provides a deliberate contrast — ornament on the outside, bare silver on the inside. A narrow, geometric double line runs along the upper rim, subtly completing the composition. The more it is polished, the deeper the contrasts of the niello become — the piece grows more beautiful over time. The Peonia line by SevChern from Veliky Ustyug unites two pieces with an identical design language: this mocha cup and the matching 160 ml Peonia sugar bowl, both featuring the same floral baroque niello on the signature trumpet-base chalice.

Use and Occasions

In Russia, the peony has been a symbol of prosperity, happiness, and marriage for centuries. A niello mocha cup with this motif is therefore no ordinary gift, but one that carries a significance far beyond coffee. Silver retains temperature differently than ceramic or porcelain, and a ritual like espresso or mocha deserves an object worthy of its importance. The Peonia cup is suitable for personal use as well as a gift for weddings, milestone birthdays, corporate anniversaries, or as a thank-you to someone for whom you want more than just any gift. Those looking for a complete ensemble can combine the cup with the matching Peonia sugar bowl to create a mocha service for two.

Engraving and SilberVerse Card

The Peonia mocha cup can be individually engraved upon review — a name, a date, or a phrase. This turns a beautiful object into a truly unique piece. Upon request, we will include a 15 × 10 cm landscape-format SilberVerse card, individually designed to suit the occasion, free of charge. The desired text can simply be specified when placing the order.

Care

925 sterling silver is robust and made for regular use. Hand washing and occasional polishing with a soft cloth are recommended to maintain the shine and allow the niello contrasts to further develop over time. No dishwashers, no silver dip baths, no ultrasonic cleaners — these methods will damage the niello inlay.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between niello and standard silver decoration?
Niello is not a painting or a print — the black inlay is fused into engraved lines, ground flush, and polished — like ink in silver. The motif cannot be scraped off, does not fade, and actually becomes more high-contrast with years of polishing.

Can I order the mocha cup with the Peonia sugar bowl as a set?
Yes. The Peonia line includes the matching 160 ml sugar bowl with the identical peony niello on the same trumpet-base chalice. Both pieces can be combined as a mocha service for two and delivered together in a gift box.

Is the cup suitable for daily use?
925 sterling silver is robust and made for regular use. Hand washing and occasional polishing with a soft cloth are recommended.
