Material and Workmanship

All three pieces are made of solid 925 sterling silver and feature the same botanical-floral niello ornamental band of rosettes and foliage — continuously around the wall of the caviar bowl, in the same style on the ice bowl, and repeated on the handle of the caviar spoon. Niello is an alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, melted by hand into engraved indentations and then ground flush with the polished silver. The result is not a print or a layer of color, but part of the metal itself — a motif that does not fade over time but gains contrast when polished. The set is manufactured by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, where niello art has been documented since 1683. All three parts bear the hallmark as proof of authenticity.

Care

Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap; a soft cloth is sufficient for drying. No dishwasher, no aggressive cleaning agents, no silver dip. The natural tarnish layer on the silver surface can be removed with a silver polishing cloth. The niello is insensitive to normal care — color and depth do not change.
